S. for the first time, in hopes to find many happy and worthwhile days. At our first class meeting, we elected Mrs. Schuekenbrock and Mrs. Brown as sponsors. We will all remember the day of initiation and also the day of the llomecoming and how happy we were when we won first prize on our float. ln September, 1949, forty-three students began their second year of high school. VVe were guided through this year hy our officers and class sponsors, Mrs. Noland and Mrs. Allen. We were lucky enough to win first on our llomc- coming float again this year. jim Losson was selected to go on the Sophomore Pilgrimage to Jefferson City. In September ,l95O. forty juniors began their third year at Palmyra lligh. Our sponsors were Mrs. llarris and Mrs. Pierre, who helped us successfully through the year. One of our big events of this year was a riotous three-act com- edv called Cone With the Girls, which was a wonderful success. Lauretta lloerr was chosen to attend Missouri Girls' State at Fulton, and joshua Bridgman, to at- tend hlissouri Boys, State at Boonville. The next big event was the annual Ir.- Sr. Banquet and Prom held on the 17th of May. The theme, Kentucky Gardens, made beautiful surroundings to Maurice Menge's music. Everyone really worked very hard to make it the success it was. In September, 1951, forty seniors enrolled in old P. fl. S. for the last time. VVe elected Mrs. Maize and Mr. llager as our class sponsors. Our officers were: President .. , . . cc, . c.. .nn .- ec.. ...E joshua Bridgman Vice-President . . . jim Losson Treasurer - . . . ., Delores Bremlner Secretary ,,,,uc,ct. lo Ann VValton Reporter c,..c.,,c, Marilyn Cardhouse Student Body President . Dale Cates Student Council , Tom llorton Jo Sutterfield The Searchlight was the biggest project of the year. VVe elected lsauretta floerr as Editor and llelen Lehenhauer as Assistant Editor. VVe won first on our float for the fourth consecutive year. Other highlights of the year were the Senior Play, the Senior Carnival, the lr.-Sr. Banquet and Prom, the Senior trip, and last but not least, the most worked for days of all, Baccalaureate and Commencement. The Seniors of SZ have been very outstanding in all school activities and have proven themselves to be capable of many worthwhile things. We leave our school with many fond memories that will find a place in our hearts forever. as four of the happiest years of our lives. The Football season this year was not a spectacular one, with the Panthers los- ing 6 and winning 3 games. Palmyra won second place in the C. Confer- ence. We had 12 returning boys this year and 20 other boys fighting to make the team. Our first game on September 14, we traveled to Brookfield where the Panth- ers lost a heart breaker 18 to 13. The Brookfield team scoring in the last 15 seconds of the game to win. Some high- lights of this game were when lim Los- son, Panther quarterback, recovered a fumble and ran 95 yards for a touch- down. Billy Johnson was injured in this game and was out of action for 2 games. Next we traveled to Shelhina for our first Conference game of the season. The Indians defeated the Panthers 26 to O in a steady downpour of rain. The third game of the season was played at Centralia, where in a Confer- ence tilt the Palmyra Panthers defeated the Centralia team by a 13 to O score. On October 5, the Macon Tigers de- feated the Panthers 19 to O in a hard- fought battle. The game was played in an intermittent downpour of rain. Sonny Kroeger, Palmyra defensive right guard, broke his ankle and was out of action the rest of the season. The second home game of the season being the Homecoming game, it was a success with the Panthers defeating the Bulldogs of Louisiana High school by a score of 20 to 13. On the first play of the game, after the Bulldogs kickoff, Dale Cates ran 61 yards for the first Panther touchdown. Miss lanice Dye was crowned Football Queen in a colorful ceremony at the half time. On October 19, the Panthers again took to the road and traveled to Ilannibal where they defeated the Mccooey lligh Shamrocks fo rtheir third victory of the season. In the third home game of the sea- son, the Panthers were beaten in a non- conference tilt by a strong Mexico team and a score of 33 to 13. The Panthers fought stronger foe and scored two touch- downs. On November 2, the Panthers played their last home game of the season against the Fulton llornets and were defeated 18 to 7. Pmoger Feaster scored the lone Palmyra touchdown early in the first quarter on a run over his own right tackle to score from the Fulton 424 yard line. For the last game of the season, the Palmyra team journeyed to jefferson City, where they were defeated on a muddy field 49 to 0 by the St. Peter's team. . - Starting Lineup: Don VVehmeyer, VVa11ace Buckwalter, john Hutcherson. A glance at the seasons record of 1951-52 boys' basketball team would 11e: i to indicate that the season wasn't much of a success. llowcyer, a closer look al the seores indicates that a large majority of the games lost were by very narrow margin a. This helps show that some good games were played by the team even though some of those good games were lost. The Palmyra Invitational Tournament was as usual a huge success. The Sub-regional State Tournament for this section was also held in the Palmyra School gym ancl was a fitting way to Clase the season.
