VARSITY VA ULTS T0 VICTORY 12 Wins - 9 Losses A 12 win-9 loss record was marked by the Palmyra High School varsity basketball team for the 67-68 season. One regular returned from last year's 16-5 season. Two other lettermen were also on this year's team as the season began Even the record indicated the season was a rebuilding year. Many of the games were quite close, scorewise. Of the three overtime games, Palmyra won them all. The fact that the team averaged 52 points per game and the opponents 54 luck. Other team statistics include a 3696 shooting average from the field and 51M from the free-throw line. Six of the nine losses were by Sterling, Adams, and Elmwood, all of which had teams rated in the Top Ten, and two of them partici- pated in the State Tournament. Highlights of the season include a second place in the Mustang Conference Tournament, fourth in the Home- steader Conference Tournament, semi-finalist in the Class A Division of the Mudecas Tournament losing to Sterling, who won the Class A Division. Bob Beecham led our team this season averaging 25 points per game, 19 rebounds per game, and 6 blocked shots. Bob shot a blazing 5795 from the floor and 5995 from the free-throw line. Girls race for a victory Girls Claim 8 Individual Placings Through the first days of track practice, one could hear the moans and groans from twenty participating girls running around the track at Bennet. The girls directed their complaints to their coach, Mr. Leland Knobel. Practices were held four nights a week after school. The girls were very successful at their meets. Among the highest events placed were! HIGH JUMP 440 50 YARD DASH Julie Seeman--1 Christal Wilson--2 Betty Wood--4 Betty Wood--4 220 YARD RUN DISCUS RELAY TEAM--1 Kathy King--3 JoDee Otley--1 Nadine Graff--3 Some of the scoring girls received awards: Julie Seeman--a gold medal, Betty Wood and Christal Wilson--red ribbons. On April 5, the team won the contest at Malcolm and also the track meet held at Sterling on April 16, 70 1X2 to 67 112. Other meets that they participated in were, the Talmage meet on April 30, the Mustang Con- ference Meet on May 6 and another meet on May 11. Events that the girls participated in were discus, shot put, high jump, broad jump, hurdles, 880, 440, 220, 100, and 50ya.rd dash. I3
