This shall also be the case in all the school years to come. The general level of education in this country and abroad is continually rising. To keep pace with these rising standards is not your privilege, but as a citizen in a democratic nation it is your responsibility. Anybody who does not accept his or her responsibility of making the most of a public education is -cheating himself, his family, and his fellow human beings. As a student in the public schools you have had thelkey to success--opportunity. You have had equal opportunity with all others in the same school. The extent to which you have taken advantage of this opportunity has, for the most part, determined your achievements and suc- cesses up to this point. Are you satisfied with what you have accomplished? Are you ready to compete in a na- tion of 190 million people and in a World of many times that number? The seniors of 1965 must, whether they feel they are ready or not. The remainder of the student body have from one to twelve years to take full advantage of their continuing opportunity of free public edu- cation, You really have only two alternatives, success or failure. The Way is clear, Which will it be?
