If one wished to cover the whole history of this unbelievable group, it would take more than the twelve years in which it was made. Now for the first time, this condensed history will be made public: It seemed like a happy day when the time came in 1940 for a group of young boys and girls to start their ad- ventures in that thing called school. This marvelous group began by honoring the first grade, which is only natural. Our teachers were Miss Bixler, Miss Groff, and Miss Turby. This is the year Nancy Lehman didn't like the story read by Miss Groff so she slept until tive o'clock. Then came the joyful summer, and only too soon for the most of us, school again. Our instructors this year were Miss Etter, Miss Stake, and Mrs. Stutzman. Maralyn Blanchard sprouted her muscles that year and beat up Howard Geiger by hitting his head against the pavement. Joyce Schoffstall and Nancy Smith filled the corner in Miss Stake's room for a month. It seems that Kistler and Fox weren't the good boys of the class in those days. Mrs. Stutzman found it necessary to tape their mouths shut to keep them quiet. Onward, ever onward! We managed to reach third grade where we were tutored by Miss Berry, Miss Baum, and Miss Moyer. Misfortune came to the class of '53, Herbert Cice cream sherbetj Hess joined us. Also Susan Jones strengthened our class. It seems Fouche received a black eye from Florence Gittleman for being a little too fresh. Remember Jean Heilman's experience of finding a mouse in her mitten? Roberta Kiner was kept after school for giving Betty Mae Rhoads a bloody nose. Selma Strait joined us that year. With only ninety-five shopping days left until Christmas, we entered the fourth grade. Mrs. Heisey, Miss Evans, and Mrs.Miller were our teachers. This was the year Miss Evan's room prospered by a big grocery business. Gor- dan Sandy gave Sue Jones a brush burn by means of a jumping rope. By sneaking in the door we all made it to fifth grade where we were entertained by Mrs.Daniels, Miss Seltzer, and Mrs.Bomberger. Miss Seltzer found reason to polish our nails with methiolate, so we wouldn't chew them. It just happened that Eileen Nelson had a boy friend that year. All the girls were jealous because Gordan Sandy let her wear his lamb wool mittens. Jean Brady and Lorraine Mercer came to us and showed us up with their good manners. Dining this year it was found that the reason for Audrey and Sue always being late was because they stood behind the LutheranChurch to read comic books. We finally reached our goal by arriving in the sixth grade. Mrs. Long. Mrs. Degler, and Mrs. Wagner were sturdy enough to handle us this year. Mrs. Long's class ran down the steps at recess time, making the plaster fall off the ceiling and Mrs. Wagner's room was punished by having to stay in a month and rest their heads. Religious Education was our downfall. Mrs. Wagner's class received D's in conduct for chewing bubble gum in Mrs. Edris's class. We received a thrill of a lifetime when we arrived in our new home the next year. This year we were perfect students and also welcomed Carl Grubb, Ellis Blouch, Luke Grubb, and Robert Smith. Still speeding onward we reached eighth grade. Here we acquired Fay Seltzer, Gerelene Maulfair, Carol Dell, Martha Roach, Gloria Popp, and Carl Mengel. Red Bachman was asked to pray the Lord's Prayer' and didn't know ll. After an invigorating summer we all came back to enter ninth grade. It was this year that Fouche kissed Ginny Hughes on a bet. He also had a feud with Mrs. Gass. Mr. Bomberger's Science Club took a very exciting trip to Millards. Still we plunged forward, getting nearer and nearer to the great climax. Upon entering tenth grade we acquired Faye Heisey. At this time, Betty Smith read so softly that everyone told her to speak Lawder , which is spelled L-a-w-d-e-r. The class showed off its greatness this year by sponsoring the most successful dance to that time, THE SPRING SWING . After that hard year we needed a long vacation, and after this rest, we came back to enter eleventh grade. This year Allen Blouch felt it was his duty to'give Uncle Sam a helping hand in the Navy, and lean hasn't been the same since. In chemistry class the boys burned phosphorous--of course they added a few things of their own while Mr. Bomberger was out of the room. What a mess! I Corinne Suter, Frank Shellhamer, and of course the cause of the big fuss, Gus Zemba, entered our class. Now came the big moment. We Hnally reached the culmination point -- Twelfth Grade. Every body was bubbling over with excitement, awaiting the ultimate end. ln a way it is sad also, for after this year we will all go our separate ways and not be together as a group anymore. Good-bye and good luck to everyone. 34 ' Y'-'Wav -e-- u u-na ' ir Millards, here we come! What's so interesting? . fk ,J- Vfx Q You name itl Decorating??? I didn't bake them. More cookies? He has just set it for the year 1968. Watch closely nowl There's Fay Heisey demonstrating the skill that won for her the Roller Derby Championship. Now we see Fire Chief Geiger of the Ono Fire Co. leaving on a call. Nancy Forney. nationally known model, is wearing one of Christian Dior's latest spring frocks. Coming into view is Gene Deiter, first man to reach the moon in a Chevy. Looking into one of the classrooms we see Lois Bomgardner teaching the future county superintendent. Before us is one of Gus Zemba's publications on how to grow giant size shoulders. There's Sue Jones campaigning for the U. S. presidency. Janet Hatter, editor of the Daily Bull, is giving her full support. She's greatest opponent is Herb Hess, democratic spokesman, who is still trying to get Kefauver into office. Now we see Bob Witmer who is in business modeling curly toupees. Dropping in at P. H. S. we see Herk Flowers trying hard to keep order in his P. O. D. class. There's Gerry Maulfair, hot rod bus driver for Tony's Bus Line Inc. Now we see Dave Geib, proprietor of Weaver's Shoe Repair Shop, busy at work. Coming into focus is a movie marque announcing a double feature, Barb Sandy starring in a picture opposite Barry Fitzgerald and Glenn Ensminger replacing Tony Baxter as Rudolph Valentino. Pat Hershey and Grubbie are now raising the future football team for P, H. S. Before us is Bob Kelchner, proudly wearing his Distinguished Flying Cross. There's Maxine Herr, timekeeper for the P. I. A. A. playoffs between P. H. S. and K. H. S. Jay Brubaker has taken over the Palmyra Bologna Factory and has only women'employees. Shirley Stark is now playing with the Philharmonic Orchestra which is, at present, giving a concert in the East Indies. Betty Maulfair struts into view as head majorette for Burling Bros. Circus. Here's Dick Hartman. After receiving his degree in Art, Music, Dramatics, and Business, he is digging ditches for Carlos Adams. Peeping into Shirley Souder's home we see her raising her own little state police force. What have we here? Snap Bahner as chief TV photographer for CBS. In case you haven't heard, people sud- denly have gone back to radio. There's George Bell running in competition against Henry Ford. Entering the Harrisburg Polyclinic we encounter Betty Rhoads, superintendent of nurses speaking to Bill Bowman, noted physical therapist. Col. Corinne Suter has just replaced Oveta Kulp Hobby as Federal Security Administrator. Dolly Patrick is now working for Chrysler Corp. testing Plymouths for water tightness. Terry Moyer has just written a book entitled Allegheny. Looking in on a meeting of the United Nations we see Ingrid Kirnbauer representing Austria. Catching a glimpse of the sports world we see Ken Bucks pitching for the American All Star baseball team. Harry Snavely is managing the Phillies. Also, Tom Cline is giving the Globe Trotters a hard time. Mike Nye has just returned from the Olympics where he heaped fame upon the United States when he cleared seven feet in the high jump. Play by play description of the afore mentioned sports activities were broadcast by Phil Bucher. Now appearing before us is Selma Strait, world famous baton twirler. Forming inside the crystal ball is a model of George Keener's factory for manufacturing jeans of elastic, thus giving the wearer a tighter fit. There's Marianne Lang, the only artist to have her cartoons translated internationally. What's this? Commercials in a crystal ball? Why, it's Don Smith, high pressure salesman, speaking a mile a minute in an effort to sell Mama Murphey's Medicated Meatballs for their originator, Paul Wagner, who is serving in Uncle Sam's Navy. By the way, Paul's secretary, Shirley I-level, is managing the business for him while he is away. Still another business man has come out of the class of '53, Earl Light has taken over the Studebaker Garage It seems Maralyn Blanchard's chain of Millies Restaurants has just put Howard Johnsons out of business. After fifteen years we see Rauch, Shertzer, and Yohn still struggling for that P. F. C. stripe. Now we see Mrs. Wayne Miller, the former Marlene Snavely, being crowned Mrs. America. Coming into view is Marv Rhoads, truant officer, on the trail of another delinquent. The crystal ball is becoming cloudy, but we can still see Glenn Rodgers taking top billing with his bird show. The future fades from view and we bring ourselves back to reality and the year 1953. 38 M-awf ' . ' f Xx fi.: + V First performance over. Bargain! Two tens for a quarter. A highlight of the game was a seventy-two yard run by l-lershey's Capitani. Swatara Twp. tied Palmyra for the third straight year in a game that was marked by injuries. Swatara had a hard-running back in Dick Breski who scored a touchdown and kicked two extra points. The Palms power went to work in the third period against Biglerville as they scored three times in that frame to register their second shutout of the season. Palmyra scored every period in the Manheim Boro game with Russ Teahl going fifty-five yards for the longest run of the day. In the last game of the season, Palmyra racked up fourteen first downs to E-town's four but were unable to score. The game was marked by brilliant defensive play on the part of both teams. In the next three meets, Palmyra lost to Swatara but defeated Annville and North Lebanon. In the District meet, Richard Bachman took first place in the pole vault. Three other boys, Carl Nye, Glenn Bashore and John Flowers, also placed in their events. ' Richard Bachman represented Palmyra in the state meet and it was the first time that Palmyra was ever represented in that meet. In the Lebanon County meet, Annville beat Palmyra by one and one-half points as it turned out to be a battle between these two teams. Richard Bachman was scoring champion with fourteen points as he took first place in the pole vault and the 220 yard run. He also placed second in the 100 yard dash.
