an the Ollaaa Hf 1915 The largest graduatmg class of the Colorado Springs Hlgh School rs the class of l9l6 numbermv over one hundred and seventy young men and women And whrle only the years to come can vue the exact verdict on the qualrty of any class certam It IS that none has been better The class may swell and proudly stand upon lts record Its scholarshlp standing has been more than excellent Its mterest ln the other actmtles of the school ha been marked wrth a sense of proprlety ln common ssrth other classes It has helped to make this mstrtutron nearly an Ideal school democracy By yrrtue of the fact that the members are older more mature and more experienced rn the school life a semor class contams usually a majorrty who lead ln those thmgs which concern the school as a whole The leadership of the class of l9l6 has been right Its members have supported the Student Organlzatlon and entered mto the athletic social dramatic and literary sldes of the school llfe with zest They ably supported by the rest of the school have made It possrble to have a greater number of boys and glrls mterested ln the different branches of athletics debatmg public speaking and dramatlcs than ever before They have led ln the reorganization of some of the soclal features of the school have colnclded ln the desire to make the Hugh School a people s college and have remembered as their number shows that lessons first and all the trme IS an excellent Hugh School Ideal The slze and standard of the class of l9l6 certainly shows their appreciation of the facllrtles offered them by the Superlntendent and Board of Education Three years of their school career were spent under Roscoe C Hull as prmcrpal to hrm and to a faculty not equaled ln Colorado goes thelr unswervmg loyalty When Just at the close of I9l5 an opportunlty came to leave a memorral to the school m the shape of eight hne Engelmann spruce trees for the campus the class unhesltatmgly assumed the obllgatron thereby grvmg a fine example of that team work whxch characterizes the entrre school Other examples of loyalty of the right sort of successes ln many different llnes of devotion to the best prmcrples of American youth cannot for lack of space be chronicled here So much for the past Now what of the future3 Thls class should remember that when former graduates of this Hugh School have gone on to college or mto the walks of the busy lrfe about us they have taken the lion s share of the honors of scholarship servrce success and character We know that ln your achrevements you wlll not fall below those who have preceded you You should do better we belreve you wrll In thrs school you have garned certain knowledge You have also gamed habrts of character punctualrty courage perseverance optrmlsm Wrth these tools so grven you vour busmess rs to hew out a path of success and senuce Some of you have already chosen what these paths shall be others are strll undetermined But all of you should remember that this rs an age of specralrzatron and that he who knows and knows that he knows IS the one with the surest prospects of helpmg others and hum 1 lv I I 1 :a ' ' .5 1 .
