Austin R. Sellery Superintendent KD- At year's end a feeling of another step completed comes over one. This feeling is a mixed feeling.for all of us. We will recall a mixture of the year's failures and successes. Was it a good year or do you feel merely glad it is over? Whether you look back with satisfaction or regret may depend upon the measuring stick you use. Our first inclination will be to look at The outer things - the grades earned, The Student Body offices held, The letters won, and even The acquaintances made. But what are These outer Things, but a hoped for measure of an inner strength and an inner growth. I caution you to look beneath these outer things, as valuable as They may seem for they are forgotten with time. They may not re- veal how the task was faced or how the race was won . Did you bring integrity and personal commitment to the demands made of you? Do you ask for meaning and a creative solution to iustify the giving of your ener- gies? Was life becoming more and more significant each day? Only you can answer these questions. These are the real clues to the measure of this past year. Mr. John Miles, assistant superintendent of our schools, is a man who truly enjoys his iob. Being with the business end of the school district, he is connected with such jobs as paying salaries, han- dling insurance, purchasing, and running the trans- portation and cafeteria departments. He is associ- ated with the elections and the purchasing of sites for new schools. As an ex-teacher, he is well ac- quainted with the school and students. This knowl- edge is often helpful to him. Mrs. Mary Mitchell, graduate of U.S.C. and the University of Oklahoma, has been Director of Instruction in the Palm Springs School District for the past seven years. She, with the help of the department heads at P.S.H.S. plans new courses for our curriculum. Our choice of electives grows more varied due to her devotion. Mrs. Mitchell believes, We have a very fine school with fine leadership. lt has been a pleasure to watch the students with whom I've been oc- quainted graduate from such a fine schooI.
