The south end of the gym sported an artihcal window and a small lighted Christmas tree to produce the ettects ot being at home on Christmas Eve, Table decor- ations consisted ot various colored candles in star-shaped holders with a sprig of ever- green and a pine cone for color. Wall silhouettes ot angels and snowflakes added to the holiday spirit. Senior high students enjoyed the very dancable music of Webster Fretz and his orchestra, Robert Shively, a former student at Palisades, took couples photographs throughout the evening. Indeed, Saturday night, December l5th., produced many precious memories for all who were in attendance. Beer - Miller Johnsson - Friend Kita - Taylor Mellon - Hershey N Mr. Simmons . The fun began when young, attrac- tive Ethel Simmons fell in love with Rodger Shields, a socialite whom she had met in Chicago. Her parents, Henry and Hattie Simmons, were flab- bergasted to learn that she had spent a whole day alone in a car with a young man! Ethel's father instantly disliked Shields and his suave, debonair manner, He had his own plans for his daughter's future. They did not include Rodger, but Chet Binney, his slovenly business partner. To impress Ethel, Binney and Henry Simmons invented an intimate friendship between Chet and Letty Lythe, a movie idol. Things were really in a state of confusion when Miss Lythe came in town for a personal appearance. ln short order FW Binney was besieged by two irrate lovers. lt ap- peared to Shields and Swift, Letty's manager and finance, that they had lost out in love to Chet. In a showdown scene both Swift and Shields converged on the Simmons home intent on fisti- cuffs. In the scuffle which followed the lights went out, and when the power was restored it was revealed that the jilted males had knocked each other out. Binney lall the while perched in the chandelierl quickly regained his composure and assumed the role of the comqueror, who had felled his foes on the field of battle. A return to normality was soon achieved. lmpressed with Chet's bravery. Ethel dropped Shields and turned to the gallant Mr. Binney. Har- mony was also restored in the romance of Donald Swift and Letty Lythe. Gentlemen of refl nement. OH h h h Trouble A Caveman's dream. fir aln't nv mold' 'gist lfs a waSl' lodyfl Seaton 77549 Girl Shy, a highly comical play, centered around the lives and loves of Tom Arsdale and Oke Stimson who were college roommates. Although quite girl shy, Tom was determined never to give into the efforts of his aunt and father to marry him off to Sylvia Webster who was the girl of their choice. To add this eternal conflict Tom further complicated the situation by falling in love with Barbara San- ford, who was far from the type preferred by father Arsdale. Roommate, Oke, the-man-of-the-world, at- tempted to help Tom by getting Sylvia interes- ted in the class poet, Alfred Tennyson Mur- gatoyd. To say the least, this well-planned scheme nearly fell through several timesles- pecially during a costume ball when some of the female costumes were interchangedl! How- ever, true love can never be denied, and it was inevitable that Cupid should reign triump- GDT. Tom's father changed his mind about the romance with Barbara Sanford. And, in all, four other romances blossomed forth as never before: Oke Stimson and Peaches Carter, Bir- die LaVerne and Chuck Mayo, and Sylvia Webster and Alfred Tennyson Murgatoyed. Even Tom's Aunt Caroline, found a lover in Dean Marlow ofthe College. To top this all off, incidental humor was provided by As'ma, the funniest wash lady history has ever produced! Among their sponsored activities were two dances, the showing of eight lilms to the entire student body, and the printing of the school hand- book. ln addition to this, funds were raised through the operaion of the Student Council store which sells school supplies. Besides this the Council also aided the school financially by paying for one issue of the Pen Point, purchasing flags, flagholders, and banners for the Band, and paying for P.H.S. news pictures. The Future Farmers spent a very active year under the capable lead- ership of their president, Bill Weierbach. They began the year preparing their projects to be exhibited in the Allentown Fair, entitled Are You Properly Insured? They also individually exhibited many of their crops. The school received a trophy for having the second highest number of exhibits in the fair. Their first formal activity was the attendance of a Leadership Train- ing Conference at Parkland High School where they studied parlimentary procedure. Among other things, the boys planted evergreens in the hotbed be- hind the school, and sold seeds, Bermuda onion sets, and the Farm Journal Magazine. This year the boys were very fortunate in having a course in elec- tricity. A representative from the Metropolitan Edison Company came weekly to instruct them. Besides things which pertain to farming, the boys also entered a basketball team in the Bux-Le-Mont League and made a good name for themselves by finishing among the top three. They concluded the year by sending tive representatives to a three day convention at Pennsylvania State University. F ' 3 . .I OFFICERS: FIRST ROW: J: Kukuru, Vice-President, B. The T956 baseball team was of mediocre caliber. ln league competition the team was good enough to win the upper halt of the Tri-County league by defeating New Hope and Southern Le- high twice. But in non-league competition they had trouble win- ning. Next year's club should be very successful because it will be composed of experienced iuniors and seniors. The team participated in the Tri-County League Championship game and lost to Upper Dublin 3 to T in a close game. X vm my A X is A nv N V . , N Y f' , A Q-5 x 'fm 8 W E. Wescoe Coflfh J. However, in the next lO games the squad posted only 2 victories-Frenchtown 63-49 and Alumni 63-51. Still, at least 5 of the other 8 contests were tight and could possibly have gone either way. Both defeat and victory had their fling in the remaining encounters. But the fact that only War- ren Kurz and Ed Kolbe were lost through gradu- ation provided a soothing solve for the wounds of defeat. Too, sophomores like Frank Tubiello, Glenn Gehman, and Bill Betz, who gained valu- able experience in J.V. ball, would be moving up for full-time varsity duty in the coming years. LEFT to RIGHT, R. They excelled in the nack of loosing ball games by the 2-4 point margin. Just one big man under the boards would undoubtedly have swung many of the close games into the Pirate win column. There was consolation for some in that as varsity competitiors next year they could leave their stilts at home and let the six footers handle the major rebounding duties.
