The enrollment was as follows: Dorna Arnett, junior Arnett, Betty Bruner, Billy Burden, Martha Carpenter, Wilbur Deeter, Martha jean Fernsler, Betty Io Ferguson, Lois Flory, Norma jean jones, Raymond Null, Byron Paul, Lois Shank, Donna Stephens, Donna Mae Teaford, and junior Tharp. Our first six years were spent in the elementary building. We had a new experience in our seventh and eighth grades. We became members of the junior High School and had part of our classes in the high school building. During these years, several new students entered. Beverly DeVelbiss, Iesse Mike- sell, Iimior Marshall, Don Laux, and Fred Clark. In our Freshman year we had several new members. They were: Bill Holland, Rich- ard Burden, Ioan Iones, Daniel Iett, Clarence Fowble, Mary Ayette, Maurice Longfellow, and Ralph Beisner. Our Freshman initiation was held at the home of Leo Riegle. Here were experienced the first agonies of being Freshies. When we were Sophomores, two members, Eileen Sleepy, and Dick Mowery, joined our ranks to help us initiate the Freshmen at the home of Donna Mae Teaiord. We were glad to get the chance to take it out on another class that which had been done to us. In our junior year came our class play which was jimmy, Be Careful. The cast included Fred Clark, Marcella Kelley, Don Laux, Donna Stephens, Wilbur ' eeter, Betty Bruner, junior Marshall, Beverly Develbiss, Richard Burden, and Donna Mae Teaford. This same year two of our class members entered the U. S. Navy. They were Dick Mowery and Iesse Mikesell. A new member, Gloria Harless, came into the class this year. When we were Juniors, we had the privilege of selling pop, ice cream bars, and sandwiches at all of our home ball games. This is where we got most of our money for the Junior and Senior reception. The reception was held in the high school gymnasium. The decorations gave the ap- pearance of a Plantation Party. It was formal and we danced after our banquet and program. This year a former member of our class, Evelyn Stevens, returned to graduate with us We are proud to say that we are the first Seniors to put out the EAGLE and we are pleased with the success we have accomplished. This, our Senior year, we are pleased that we have been as successful as we were during our other eleven years of school. We hope that our success may continue with us through life. Those students going all twelve years at Palestine are: Betty Bruner, Betty Io Ferguson, Donna Stephens, and Donna Teaford. x ., Q.ht.i.i2'L-nv'!L-.1.QL.CI lV n N f' 5 'Lf' 'f. And to think that I, Don Laux, was sitting there in my Fifth St. apartment, ready to compete in that bout as state champion of Ohio with the champion of Missouri. It just seemed like yesterday that I was a Senior of P. H. S. How I longed to see my fellow classmates! The bout was to begin at 6 o'clock P. M. and I made an extra effort to be there in due time. As I entered the ring, my manager, Richard Burden, jabbed me in the ribs and told me to look at the first two rows of reserved seats. I lmew then I would have to win so as not to disappoint my dear friends. Believe it or not, I proved to be the champ- ion of the nation in the beginning of the fourth round. I always did say that four was my lucky number. I sure remember my basketball suit of the Eagle Squad! After my victory, I felt like celebrating and so must my old classmates as they were in the ring with me, cheering and yelling as they did for the Eagles. I knew this called for a party so I invited them over to my apartment for a grand old celebration. All of my friends seemed to have changed so, except my brother-in-law, junior Marshall. He used to tell us that he had no other name but junior and believe it or not he still goes by the name of junior. Even his tree little daughters call him Daddy junior. As Richard had eaten everything in the house that was eatable, I decided I would have to go get some refreshments, so my old buddy, Fred Clark oiered his assistance. While driving down Fifth St., I thought there was no timelike the present to ask the question that kept popping in my mind. Fred, I said, Did you ever marry Ioan Cole? Nat- urally, said Fred, she finally caught me about three years ago. He informed me that he and Ioan had spent the last three years farming Cole's place. He had spent several years playing collegiate basketball and still helped the alumni of P. H. S. i.n their independ- ent games. And to my amazement, Bill Holland happens to be Fred's helper. Of course, whether they get much work done or not is beyond me, as I recall how Fred and Bill were so chummy and should I say lazy at school, especially in Bookkeeping Class. But neverthe- less they should manage somehow! After finally arriving back home once more, where my friends were really carrying on and having a wonderful time, Fred and I carried the things into the house and had the women get things ready while we men stepped into another part of the house to carry on like we used to in the good old days at P. H. S. Being alone made us feel like we wanted to have a good game of Euchre, and to my surprise, guess what, for my first partner I had Clarence Fowble. After playing and chat- ting a little while I asked Clarence what he was doing now. And I wasn't the least aston- ished when he told me he married that girl from over by Arcanum and was now deeply in the farming business. He said he was getting along fine and that he had his own eighty acre farm. But to my amazement Clarence had five children--but that wasn't so bad--only there were four boys and one girl--the poor kidl The card game was now coming to an end and of course, I and Clarence had to get up fthe losers always dol. Looking around I saw that they were one short over in the corner and I had the pleasure of having Daniel Hambone Jett for a partner. I asked Dan if he was married yet. He replied, No, suhl I ain't made up my mind yit. He told me he had been working at Richmond. 1 V 1, ,fun . , X : .J In ., . w.X , .lv 'Fa Y V..iTtl'4L'. Remember Pat Rex- rode--well. she was the first one I cornered and to my surprise she informed me that she was just a plainbookkeeperfor one of the Army Captains at Wright Field. I always knew she would end up doing accounting or something of the sort. Marcella Kelley astounded me by telling me that she was using her time in operating a beauty shoppe at Covington. Also, I should not forget that her three-year old daughter was of great help to her. She told me her husband's name but I had never had the honor of meeting him. I looked over at the big mirror and who should be standing there but Betsy Ferguson. Yes, you have guessed it, there she stood combing her hair. Her left hand showed up re- markably well as there was the largest diamond solitaire I have ever seen and the wedding ring was overflowing with diamonds. I didn't even have to ask her who the lucky fellow was as I remembered the pretty red sweater she used to wear at P. H. S. I was pleased to hear that she was living on a farm keeping house for her husband and her twins Ca boy and a girlj. I thought to myself how charming a housewife she would make. By this time, the music was going full swing and a very good piece was playing. Talking about hubba-hubba girls of 1946, there were Beverly and Donna Mae swinging out as they used to do at Palestine. After they had completed their dancing exhibition, they came over to talk. Guess what, Donna Mae finally settled down to Noel Marshall, after breaking many hearts. Can you imagine, she has three little girls and each of them are majorettes for the school band. About this time, Beverly said she thought Donna Mae had talked enough, and she must tell me about her charming husband, Debby. She was one of the lucky Seniors who was a june bride of 1946. Beverly told me of her two boys, one with blond hair and blue eyes and the other with black hair and brown eyes. The boys help with the work on their ZOO-acre farm. Talking about june weddings, Betty Bruner reminded me of her being the first of our class to tie the knot. Yes, Lester and she were married the night before graduation and as the most of the class seem to follow, they are farmers too. They have only one child and he looks like Betty. Probably we should have made our class motto The prospective farmers of 1946. Gloria, having married George Liette , was telling me how she and George had kept up the old I iette homestead and now they are living there. And you would never guess who their closest neighbor is, yes, Mary Ayette is living close by and she is just as athletic as ever. She has been teaching girls' physical education at the Palestine High School. She has a very sweet modern home and most of the lady teachers of P. H. S. room there. Ioan jones informed me that she had a very short distance to come as she also lives in Cincinnati. Phe has been a social worker in the town and she told me she had attended most of the boxing bouts. I was glad to hear that some of the class members had followed me. I just wonder though, if she wasn't a little interested in my manager as he has never married and Ioan didn't talk long as Richard was sitting on the divan waiting to talk to her. I noticed Evelyn F. was busy talking to Daniel and I wondered what all the interest was about. And who's name did you think I heard mentioned? None other than Timid. Of course we all knew who that was and Evelyn told me she still thought Tim to be pretty nice. She said, I haven't married, yet, Don, maybe there is still a chance. V- '1 s'. Y-. 111' A . Can you imagine that girl not being married? Not mel I asked her what she was doing? She said she was trying to break down the Navy. CThose sailors--they're toughl. Donna said she wanted to kiss me just for luck--so she did-- but it turned out to be bad luck because just then my wife, Helen, came out of the twins' room after putting them to bed and she happened to see Donna kiss me on the cheek. Of course the little blond got mad as fire, and I had some explaining to do. But all turned out Well and we continued our visiting. After a few hours of this the folks began to get sleepy and tired, so wishing me luck, they all started for home. uq' .mI'14n'f ' ,x Q '- V 1 U . . qafurx, 4' , .. 1 Q-rf 'fl f 'L.i-il.. CHEERLEADERS The most active part in athletics that the girls can take is in the cheerleading department. This year the fans were led in their sup- port by two juniors and a sophomore in their purple and gold skirts and sweaters. Helen lowdenslager, Mary Lou Hapner, and Betty Laux were the names.
