For five years, Mrs. Keel has served the students of Palacios High School in many capacities: librarian, co-sponsor of the Future Nurses Club, and annual sponsor. To every student, she has been a loyal friend. For your many contributions, we would like to say a very special “thank you,” Mrs. Keel. Superintendent of Schools It is my belief that every young American has the greatest opportunities before him that have ever existed in the history of mankind. It is also my observation that many young Americans do not make sufficient plans to take full advantage of the many opportunities before them. You may ask, How do I make these plans? I would say Think more about tomorrow because tomorrow is your future and work harder today because tomorrows opportunities depend on todays work.” The results of good planning will assure you an exceUent chance to take advantage of your opportunity. To become a highly successful and respected person in ones’ pro- fession, community and church is the result of making plans today. 4 Principal of High School Mr. J. G. Smith, Jr. Greetings to the Class of 1970 You have climbed the mountain of success in the Palacios schools. You stand on top of this mountain and scan the horizons looking for your next task to perform. Your diploma from this school entitles you to pursue many roads with each road leading one of you to your life’s work. Regardless of the road you take, your education will continue. When you stop learning, you stop progressing. I take this opportunity to wish each of you success in all your life’s ventures. May each of you remember the days spent in this school. I stand ready to assist you in any way I can. Congratulations to you, the class of 1970! High School Faculty ANNETTE ABELS, English LEON BULLOCK, Agri- culture MICHAEL D. Being a new organization, the Student Council membership consists of elected representatives of the various school organizations and the presidents of each class. The Interact Club was formed last year, (1969-70) for the purpose of community improvement. It is sponsored by the local Rotary Club, and the Rotary representative for Interact is Mr. Byron King. It was decided that an annual Pillow Fight would be held for a money raising project. This has been a great success each year. At Christmas time, stuffed toys were made and sent to a Children's Hospital in Houston. As an International Project, a child from Formosa was adopted. The Club sent money for her to go to school for a year. This is her pic- ture on the right. 88 NHS Inspires Leadership TOP ROW: Kenneth Hickl, Jimmy Greenawalt, Robert McEntire, Jimmy Adams, Douglas Kahlich, Ralph Harvey, Larry Baird, Craig Thompson, Phillip Wall, Ralph Webb. That's how this group of individuals arrived at this point in their lives. But, by no means, will the stars abandon them now. Never in history has a nation been so dedicated to educate the entire mass of its population to the capacity of their abilities. We, as individuals, cannot solve the national problems, but we, as individuals, can strive to prepare our- selves so that we will not become one of our national prob- lems. Our school is designed to help you meet the challenges of the future. The future is yours. What you make of it depends on your educational preparation and efforts.
