HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE TO THE STUDENTS OF PALACIOS HIGH SCHOOL: It is a pleasure to work with a group of students who are always willing to put their shoulders to the wheel when there is a job to be done. You have been faithful in your work while in Palacios High School. You are going from the protective walls of this high school in a few short months. You will then meet problems that will be yours to solve. I sincerely hope that your training here has been such that you may better solve these problems. When you have been away from the school a few short years you will feel a special interest in those who are following in your path. May you always feel that this is your school. SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE TO THE MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS PALACIOS HIGH SCHOOL My Dear Friends: In graduating from high school you no doubt are experiencing one of the most important events in your l ife so far and I congratulate you upon your success. At the same time, I would like to remind you that what you have gone through in school was merely in preparation for more important things that lie ahead. You have acquired a great deal in academic skills during the past twelve years which you will find to be highly important in whatever you may choose as your life’s work. However, there are other things that are equally as important. The habits and attitudes which you have formed during your school years will follow you throughout life and will become your chief asset or liability. When you leave school you will not be judged by how much arithmetic you know, nearly so much as you will by what your attitudes are toward your fellow-man and the institutions of society in which you live. For that reason, I urge you to cultivate a good opinion of your associates and acquaintances. Always think well of them when it is possible to do so and never speak ill of any- one when it can be avoided. It is with both pride and regret that we bid you goodbye from the Palacios High School, and hope that the successyou have attained here will inspire you with confidence in your ability to achieve even more in whatever lies ahead. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE TO THE SENIORS OF 1954: You hove at last reached the famous Crossroads” of your life. The state of the nation has made your decision a great one. Never before in the history of our time has there been a period where there was so much indecision and doubt. The choice you will make will have to be your own as your predeces- sors can only counsel. I am ready at all times to help you make a choice and to aid you in any other way possible. You are now standing alone and must choose the road you are going to take in life. I am very confident that your choice will be a good one. I wish each of you a great deal of success and all the happiness you so rightfully deserve. 10
