1952-1353 FOREWORD This school year, as in years past, the Ebb-Tide staff has attempted to picture your school life in Palacios High School. In years to come we hope this book will help to recall many happy memories of school pals, teachers, sports, and many other activities and special occasions that go into the make-up of a well-rounded school year. David Johnson Editor-in-Chief D E D I C A T I 0 N MR. CYRIL CARVIN When you think of an annual, you usually think of the memories it will hold for you in years to come. You seldom think of the time and effort that is required each year to make this book of memories a part of your life that will live forever. Be- hind all this work and effort is a person who encourages and helps the staff of the annual to make the book a success. Such a person is Mr. Carvin. He has helped to make this annual a success, as well as many other annuals in the past. His patience, guidance, and encouragement have helped us to make our annual a book of memories which we believe will live forever in all our hearts. So it is that we, the Ebb-Tide Staff of 1953. with all these things in mind, and with appreciation in our hearts, gratefully dedicate this, our 1953 Ebb-Tide, to — MR. Their first was to the Bay City Rice Festival where they marched in the parade. During the fall the hand journeyed with the football team to all of the games played away from home. The band put on a fine half-time performance at every game. In early February the hand went to Houston to march in the Houston Fat Stock parade. Later in February the band marched in a parade and attended the clinic at Victoria. In the Regional marching and playing contests the band did good considering that they had been raised to a higher class this year. There were many first place winners from the Palacios Band at the Regional Solo and Ensemble contest. The band had to joumev to Houston for all the regional contests. In the spring the band gave their final concert. Five honor medals were awarded to outstanding band members. Carla Ehlers and David Johnson received the outstanding High School Band Members' medals. Johnnie McDaniel received the medal for the outstanding member of the majorette-drum major group La Verne Bowers and Roy Cor- poran received medals for the outstanding Junior High School band members. The band officers for the year were Johnnie McDaniel, President; Don Batchelder, Vice-President; and David Johnson, Secretary and Treasurer. Should she abolish home work, as one friend helpfully suggests? Should she stand behind an unpopular teacher? Should she keep the school’s star athlete out of the state basketball tournament for dis- ciplinary reasons? These are only a few of the headaches that confront Pam and her hoy friend, Buzz” Bailey, who unexpectedly finds himself doubling as vice-principal and home Ec teacher, with an omelette in one hand and a dress pattern in the other. Then somehow, with the return of Mr. Lundquist, the real principal, situations manage to right themselves; and Pam and Buzz and the rest of the school return to normal. Well. . .more or loss!
