' ' ' O 13 ' ' l 6 ' 2 4 ' ' 2 3 ' 3 2 l 2 ' ' O 3 ' 15 2 ' ' ' ' 1 2 ' ' 4 l 14 BASKETBALL Rochester here we come That cry IS gettlng to be a tradition to Painted Post basketball teams after a regular season This year the Posters returned to then old stamping grounds the hardwood of Rochesters Mam Street Armory This was accomplished after a tough season which was climaxed with a v1ctory over Wellsville in the quarterfinals The regular season saw Coach Walt McG1lls boys race through a hard schedule with 12 victories aga1nst 6 losses The Indians held down the thlrd position in the league as they lost only to CFA and Hornell The Redskrns started the season in high spirits by a victory over Addison 3615 Alfred Almond was the next to bow to us 35 26 The Poster now red hot took two fairly easy wins from a hapless Penn Yan five 43 28 and 56 29 v1ctor1es CFA cooled us off in the next game however by winnmg a 35 29 victory In the next game the Ind1ans were back in their stride and scalped the boys from Horseheads with a 52 36 w1n Haverlmg felt the Warriors sting on Haverlmg s home court as they fell before us 44 26 ln the next two games the Braves h1t the skids as Elmira Heights walloped us with a 41 32 set back and Alfred Almond took a surprise vengeful victor 44 42 Elmira Heights did not emoy their v1ctory long how ever as the Pc sters bounced back into the V1C1OI Y column with a 36 24 trlumph over them Northside could not match the Indians attack and they Joined our list of victoms falling 39 31 The next two games were sad ones for our team as We met the two top teams in the league 1n succession The Indians could not function smoothly enough against Hornell s undefeated qurntet and we lost our second league game 35 21 CFA s gym was the site of our next m1shap as we dropped a close and exciting thriller 21 19 Haverling was entertained on the Post court on the chin agam with a 58 43 defeat Addison soon followed the same path as they Journeyed to Painted Post to receive a 50 26 loss The Posters sharp ened up their attack and in the next game they exploded with a stunnlng 64 35 victory over Northside The last game on our schedule was one of the hardest fought games of the season as we tangled with the Maple City lads from Hornell again After a close exciting and hot tempered contest the Post squad found itself Just shy of v1ctory as Hornell remalned undefeated in league compet1t1on by taking the game 49 48 With the regular season completed the Indians Journeyed to Alfred for the quarter finals Behind a fast and powerful attack the Posters swamped Wellsville 48 29 for a chance to play in the semi finals rn Rochester On March third the Posters took the floor in Rochesters Main Street Armory against Geneseo After a thr1ll1ng and heartJump1ng contest wh1ch saw the lead change many times our boys finally pulled a 4441 victory out of the fire This was the fifth straight year that Painted Post had won the semi finals 1n Rochester and this victory enabled us to play East Rochester 1n the finals a week later East Rochester had beaten Post teams in the finals the last two years and was favored to repeat this performance Would the Jlnx over the Indians be repeated? The Indians fought desperately to bring the cup back to Painted Post and without a single substitution they fought off an East Rochester rally in the dying minutes of the game to win 36 34 Th1s is the first time since 1924 that a Painted Post team has won the A championship 1n Rochester although the teams of PPHS have been ln the finals for the past five years straight We can also be proud of placing two men on the all sectional team They are Donnie Childs and Chuck lagerbom who were chosen because of their fine playing 1n the semifinals and finals With most of our squad returning next year and som of the Iayvee players returning as varsity matenal, we hope to have another good record next season u 1 .
