lllS1lllillll l'.H.S. BA ll The Pahokee High School Band was reorganized May 10, 1940 under the direction of Mr. Robert O. Lampi. Rehearsals were started and continued throughout the summer and the band was ready for the 1940 football season. ln the Contest Festival held in St. Petersburg in the spring of 1941 the Band won 1st division rating in marching, 3rd in concert, and 3rd in sight reading for Class D Bands. The festival was not held in 1942 but for the next three years Inspection Contests, wartime substitute for the festival, the Band received First Division ratings, in concert and sight reading. These first division rat- ings were repeated in 1946 at the state contest in St. Petersburg. At the District Contest in West Palm Beach in 1947, first divisions were won in concert, sight read- ing, and marching and at the State Contest in Miami, Pahokee received 2nd in sight reading, 2nd in march- ing, and 3rd in concert. ln 1948 at the District Contest in West Palm Beach the Band received lst in concert, 1st in sight reading, and 1st in marching, At the State Contest held in St. Petersburg the Band won 2nd in concert, 1st in sight reading,and 1st in marching. ln the District Contest held in Pahokee in 1949 honors such as lst in concert, 1st in sight reading, and 2nd in marching were won. At Jacksonville in the State Contest the Band won 1st in sight reading, 2nd in concert, and 2nd in marching. West Palm Beach was the place of the District Contest in 1950. The Band won 1st in concert, sight read- ing, and in marching. At the State Contest in Miami, 1st in sight reading, 1st in marching, and 2nd in concert. The 1951 District Contest held at this school bestowed honors upon the Band with three firsts. State Con- test in St. Petersburg: 1st concert, 1st sight reading, and 2nd in marching. The Band plays at football games, gives concerts, goes on parades, and plays for civic organizations. ln completing the 1952 year the 53 members and Mr. Lampi hope to take top honors at the contests.
