Lampi, uni nts f f f A5-In K, I f f . 1 ACTIVITIES x- ,352 ORGANIZATIONS SPORTS We Cbart Here it is in pictures-the story of a Senior year full of activity. Like the medieval advance to knighthood, our progress has been in several stages-from fresh- man to senior. Just for fun, let's look at some typical shots around school and some very un-typical ones. Yes, we posed a few, but they only prove that our modern development towards intelligent citizenship in America isn't so different from the education of some unknown yet heroic European student of the lance, the long bow, or the legions of gallantry. At long last Richard receives his final knighting Ccrowning?l when Mr. Canipe presents him his di- ploma-Not exactly a title of Sir Richard will fol- low, but we won't forget to respect that sheepskin in the years to come. At the close of the school day students rush out for their seats on the bus to go home. The respected seven are honored at the pep rally before the Big Game November T950 Those coaches look surprised as they receive gifts from the team The best gift would be a victory for the boys in blue, but we settled for a well fought tie. WMX, ,J '2,,, V W!! 1. ,4,,:5h J' '54-4' 'IU X, 01112 WOI12 Our gallant Sir Chandler on his brown and white charger ias you can see from his shiny armourl is well prepared to battle any one who challenges a member of the Senior Class. Charge! There is seriousness as well as fun in the classrooms as Miss Smith demonstrates the art ot sewing a straight seam. Better look on, girls! A good seamstress may be needed when the brains in the Chemistry lab create a new explosive and blow themselves to bits. From armour suits to atoms in three easy photos! uw, 'r fa. We GUI PUH Here's a glimpse at the Royal Court in the Great Hall-Room No. 9, and our king Sidney giving orders to his subjects as The prosecution of some inattentive courtiers takes place. Lots of action is witnessed on the athletic field as Alfred grabs the ball and races for a touchdown. Physical excellence has always been admired. And don't forget the entertaining Junior play Take Your Medicine. Santa Claus , tem-per- ture and giggling Gloria will remain in our memo- ries as will the grumbling millionaire, the loving couple and the hospital staff. The show goes on! . lg? yr,, 9? fi 1 5 V rc y A A ff M Z' it My n ,fi , 2 W 5 E its l h W ,,s,, Q s u ,sf L t Q4 l lib f 9 E 'X 'NYNX l ,. Our own Romeo and Juliet-.loan and Trevette-pose for the balcony love scene. Plenty of pep and energy describes the students as they parade before the Belle Glade-Pahokee game. Rivalry surely pro- vides stimulus. So does beauty and polish. Here's our Senior Royalty all dolled up for the tea honoring the Senior parents and the faculty. That was the first entertainment of its kind undertaken by a Senior class. lt was quite a success. Maybe it will become a tradition. .wh-.-,uhh if f I gf A ,M is . . 5 ,,Q.,1 X K Through the Years There were those days we rushed to the Library and frantically checked out books before the book report deadline-an d what good did it do? We seldom had time to read them anyway. We do appreciate the just credit our library received from the long awaited Evaluation committee . Below is a pretty pose by two groups of our girls. The Cheerleaders make a mighty nice show at games and pep rallies, and our F. F. A. contest is a yearly highlight featur- ing the choices of each grade. At a very gay square dance Donna Jo Spooner was crowned Valentine Queen and she was at- tended by worthy maidens Lovda, Eleanor, Billie Nelle, and Janette. Nice scenery, eh? E., From unior High In that English IV book we read ot scops , minstreIs , iesters , iokers ,- yes, and even fools . Ot course, the gal- lant brotherhood of Seniors had its share of them. The royal retinue ot court clowns stars the two wittiest the pet and the pest of the class. They are expecting a call to appear in the Royal Court ot England soon. Maybe that's a good place to send them-away! David isn't really insane down there. He's iust acting at poor Buddy's expense. You guessed it, we're still Taking Our Medicine. Climaxing the football season, our spon- sors and captains witness-with sorrow-the presentation of the trophy to the Belle Glade football team. We lose without loss ot honor, though. Till Graduation Days What's this? No Students Allowed and the Seniors can't bear to stay away from P. H. S, lt's a seige of the fortress of knowl- edge. Charles sounds the call to charge while three weary defenders battle off the rag-mop-and-broom attack at the ancient portal. Frank is a casualty, but consider the cause! Seems he recovered in time to join his fellow reporters on Tuesday t paper day. l The journalism class breezes into action, making history in the pages of The Pahokee News and this Devil's Trail. ln another department Mr. Brooks gives those future farmers some big ideas about fertilizer. Better learn now, fellows, one of these days you'll need to know all that, and more. wa' 51 s ASH. il IN l fi! , 1 V . 3 , f A, 41 g ga ay ,, T s lv r r . f . Some ot the memories we will cherish tor many years to come were our Senior play, our party in the woods during the Christmas holidays, the fun we all had when we worked on this The 1951 Devil's Trail, the way our iournalism class rushed aroung on Tuesday afternoon to meet the dead-line for the Pahokee News, and the way Gus kept us all laughing in English Class. U SENIOR SNAPS Lodies In Woiting To form the link between school ond home, to help us in our 'mony activities, to leod us through o fuller yeor-these ore the recisons we chose room mothers. Note our pols on the Clase History What's all the excitement? Do you want to know what it's about? Well, we are the Seniors and it's our last year of school. Sit down and let me tell you our story. Our official history began when we entered high school as green-very green-freshmen. Our presi- dent was Sidney Caruthers, Vice-President, Jackie Thomas, Secretary, Anna Lee Hurt, Treasurer, Myra Lee Cruthirds, and Watch Dog, Chandler Mcllwain. We spent our time learning the ropes of high school life. At the beginning of our Sophomore year we lost most of our shyness and looked on the brighter side of life. Officers were President, Charles Sears, Vice-President, Myra Lee Cruthirds, Secretary and Treas- urer, Carol Snyder, and Watch Dog, Chandler Mcllwain. This was the wonderful year of l949, when we won the Belle Glade game. It was also the first year in the history of Pahokee that the Sophomores had money in the treasury. Then we were Juniors and what a year! The Junior officers were, President, Sidney Caruthers, Vice- President, Chandler Mcllwain, Secretary, Janet Adams, Treasurer, Jackie Thomas, Business Managers, Joann Rosenberg and Dale Maxwell. In order to earn m o n ey for the Junior-Senior Prom, we sold magazine subscriptions, sponsored dances, and sold drinks and hot clogs at the football games. For the first time, the Juniors produced a play. It was one of the finest plays that have been given in Pahokee High School. The play Here Comes Charlie was a great success. The money went towards the Jun- ior-Senior Prom. We decorated the Elks Club like a Southern Plantation and we showed the seniors that we could give them a wonderful banquet. This was the exciting year we got our class rings, and you can bet we were proud of them. Finally the day came that we were dignified and sophisticated Seniors. Our president for his third time was Sidney Caruthirds, Vice-President, Myra Lee Cruthirds, S ec reta ry, Janet Adams, Treasurer, Joann Rosenberg, Reporter, Richard Tillis. Our most important undertaking was the publication of our annual which we found no easy matter. We had a wonderful football team which won all the games but two and tied Clewiston and Belle Glade. We were the first class to have a party for the faculty and our room mothers. None of us will forget the memories of one another and the grand times we have shared. We, the Seniors of l95l, want to thank our sponsor, Miss Ruth Evans, for her guidance, companion- ship as a teacher, and a friend. We would also like to thank our room mothers, Mrs. Uceba Caruthers, Mrs. Earl Maxson, Mrs. Bill Jones and Mrs. J. E. Williams for all they have done for us. Now you have heard our story and what all the excitement is about, for we are graduating. Don't forget that story, and don't forget us. We have had a busy year with our Class Play, operating the refreshment stands at football games, sponsoring Sadie Hawkins Day, selling magazines, and giving the Junior-Senior Prom, but these are just stepping stones to prepare us for our big year next year when we will be Seniors. We were led through our activities and greatly helped by our Sponsors, Miss Constance Smith and Mr. Herbert Miller. Our class officers President, Dick Atkins, Vice-President, Mac Lynn, Secretary, Myra Baxter, Treasurer, Ada Tillman, Business Managers, Mac Lynn and Patsy Elliott and Watch Dog Carney Wilder did much to make our class successful, and we look forward with great anticipation for the day when we will be Seniors. Dale talks over the advertising section with Jan- ette and Bobby, business managers. Skipper seems worried over his ads sales. Myra Lee is figuring out original ideas for the pictures of Superlatives. The typists, Marlene, Betty Jane, Janet and Joan are doing quite well considering they have only one typewriter! Deeply engrossed in the study of tournaments and quests is Charles, Sports editor. Chandler and Richard are comparing snaps for the annual. ' Puzzled yet cheerful, Joann and Anna Lee plan the clubs ,and organizations pages. Sidney and Joan Benton are counting the circulation sales. Frank, assistant editor, seems to be reading, Macbeth no doubt! Carol, Senior editor, chewing quite happily on her pencil is seeking information on the activities of Zella who had a iob in both advertising and circulation. Last but not least, is our artist, Richard. He appears at his wits end over his drawings. He is responsible for the nice illustrations which bring out our theme of Medieval days and ways. The annual staff had a hard iob to do but through the co-operation of the staff, the class and our faculty advisor, Miss Evans, published this 1951 Devil's Trail. Hope you like it! Qu Harrassed husband and puzzled Pat cringe while the weeping women wail over the problems at marriage, money and motherhood. -And this was only the beginning. Uncle Arch Rozelle casually hands the all-im- portant business card to the worried father, Skipper while bidding Mrs. Chambers a farewell. As the curtain falls, Eva Mae and Skipper recall the days when they were so very young and they leaped head on into a happy, lasting marriage. As Rupert stands off in a daze thinking of his own love life, the young girls an- xiously discuss .lune's approaching mar- riage. Belva, the spinster next door, warns of the big step young folks are taking by getting married, while Aunt Kate, the wealthy member of the family, agrees wholeheartedly. Pat very sincerely expresses his love and affection for Ann as he places the moon stone engagement ring on her finger. Although they know the Cham- bers won't approve, the young couple has no idea of the trouble they are about to rneet. Things really begin to happen!!! l 13140 . 859 g 'gwgliiyq ,.ri , June explains to Aunt Kate her plans for college, marriage, and a family, while Frances, Ann's older married sister tells her mother how she and Jay got the loan for their home. WEEKS .--:0c v-... --- I PAHCKEE LCDGE P 'T 'T NO. 1638 BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ' ORDER OF ELKS 1 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA fl Pohokee Florida E The Prop eoy After receiving our final knighting at graduation, we, The Seniors of l95l, gave our farewells and very anxiously entered into The new life that awaited us. Now, in l96i, the knights and their ladies are together once again at The home of Mr. and Mrs. Trevette Weeks. Courtesy is forgotten. Everyone is Trying to speak aT once and Tell of his success, achievements, and experiences since we were last all Together ten years ago. Our host and hostess, Joan and Vette, are multi-millionaires and are spending The winter here in Their luxurious home on Kreamer lsland. They Tell us They made Their fabulous fortune renting motor scooters to couples wishing to elope. Joan mentions that some of Their recent customers were Carol Snyder and Steve, however, the wed- ding plans were called off after Carol insisted on Taking a route through Sebring. Wonder why ! ! l Janet Adams, whom we see drinking a coca cola , is still employed by The local 5 and TO cent store. We are surprised to hear that Betty Jane Barber, who broke her engagement when we were sen- iors, remains unmarried. The head coach at Section 4V2, Bobby Peacock regretfully informs us that his two star players Charles Choo Choo Lairsey and Edard Engine Culberson could not be here due to serious head injuries received last week when they collided with the city garbage truck driven by Frank Stinky Rosen- berg. Frank is reported uniniured. We see a group gathered and laughter fills the room. We look To see who is in the middle of the party-Joan Ryals, our wittiest senior girl. She says her friends Betty Jean Hoyle and Vernell Browning have done quite well. Yernell has a new auto-plane her manager awarded her for batting 62 home runs last season for the Sandcut Avacado Pear ball club. Joan said And I have a life contract to crack only jokes published by the Hoyle Joke Company l l Mrs. Billy Mosley, the former Evo Mae Rutherford tells of her happy married years since graduation. She says she owes her success as a housewife to her part as Mother in the Senior Class Play! Chandler Beef Mcllwain has achieved fame also I ! He is the only Willie Boo that can still do the Willie Boo Boogie ! l He appears nightly at the Tomaine Tavern, J. V. Thomas, proprietor. C. Dale Maxwell, the movie magnet has announced that his latest production Sally Permit Your Bangs to Droop with Marlene Chi-Chi Williams and the Tillis Brothers is a huge success. He also re- minds us that Gus and Dick are the highest paid hillbilly singers in Hollywood. After TO years of apprenticeship Charles Holmes has earned the position as assistant floor sweeper at the old billiards parlor now owned by George Rozelle. As Anna Lee and Skipper McCurdy leave, they call back that they'll meet us at the show. They have to rush home and put their football team to bed. You remember they were voted most likely to succeed!!! As conversation has quieted down a bit Mrs. Vtleeks brings out her scrap book and tells us of The interesting clippings she has kept concerning her former classmates. Bobby Love 'em and Leave 'em Mackey has made the headlines. He was lust arrested on a bigamist charge. Looks like he forgot he had a wife and married two others states Sheriff Jacob Weeks. We see Ronnie Russom and Joan Bubbles Benton are now appearing at May's Madhouse. lt seems Ronnie has made quite a reputation with his dancing dolls. And these faces are familiar. Why, it's Patri Maxson and King Cornet, Charles Sears. They have just returned from a concert tour in Siberia where they achieved great tame playing Ski Chopsticksf' Mrs. I. Beta Do, the former Joann Rosie Rosenberg tells us ot several old classmates. Her former neighbor Richard Ogle, the human fish, is in Pago-Pago where he is teaching the natives how to swim. Myra Lee Cruthirds was iust released from prison after serving a term for stealing pencils from The Bank- rupt Company. She tells us she heard that the Sims, Jones Acrobatic dancing team are in Chattahochee. We wonder if they're entertaining or residing there ! l ! As we ask Rosie about herself we learn that she is now divorcing her seventh husband. Her only comment was I'm still looking tor the perfect mate! We are reminded of the time, and must hurry in order to get to the theatre to see Janette Mathis and Seymour Caruthers in their latest play One Careless Moment.
