A part of it goes on in institutions which are d e sig n e d especially for the learner. Here in school, it is the aim of this administration to provide an atmos- phere that will be c onducive to the de- velopment of the fourfold nature of the in- dividual: Mental, Physical, Moral, and Spiritual. Here we mingle together in our play life and in our social activities. In our more serious moments, we share in the solution of our problems. It is here that we learn to live with people, Sincerely yours, ffwf H , W, Cross, Principal Administration We are living in a time in history when no man dares say it cannot be done, In this day of man-made satellites and mechani- cal power of untold possibilities, we face a future such as mankind has never faced before. I have faith in our young people to meet their obligations just as our fore- fathers had faith in the younger generation of their time. We must not lose sight of human and spiritual values as we progress with the age of science. My best wishes go with each of you as you advance in life's work, Alton Farr, Superintendent ,Adminisfrutars Friends: It is generally agreed that the elementary school unit is an important agency for the functioning of d e m o c r a c y, because we , The Goodwin School Faculty, are con- cerned that all the children of all the people attend our e le m e n t a r y school. There the foundations of democracy must be carefully laid. Whatever else maybe included in the curriculum for this elemen- tary school, there certainly must be in- cluded tho s e activities and experiences necessary for whole some, happy and creative living in the most important state of children's development. Sincerely, Ray Felty, Principal Goodwin School ,QV - at iff., 29 so 2: 'Q 'Lax Dear Alamo School Boys and Girls, Each year plans are made to welcome a new group of beginners. H6 has shown a great abundance of talent on the football field, on the ba s ke tball court, on the track team, and on the tennis court, as well as other sports. Playing the position of Dragon End, Tommy has lettered four years, and he made all-district this year, Sports is not the only thing Tommy is good in, however. He is vice-presi- dent of the Senior Class and an active member of the West Wind Staff, Polite, s in c e r e ways are traits which make Tommy everyone's friend. l6'00s!c'rs A cute, friendly, PHS Junior, Peg- gy Nixon, was selected as the best girl athlete of '58, She uses her natural athletic ability mostly on the Girls' basketball team, on which she holds the position of guard. She has lettered three years and has been on the start- ing six for two years. She is co-captain this year, Quiet, charming ways have won manyfriends for Peggy in PHS, teach- ers and students alike, Energetic, tireless working Peggy Matney was elected by the FHA Club to serve as their president this year, Peggy has done a very nice job at this, as well as the other offices she holds - Senior Class treasurer, Zephyr busi- ness manager, student council cor- responding secretary, and Pep Squad vice-president, All the s e offices are well-tended by this valuable senior? her grades are always good, and her work is never late. Peggy is also a member of the Na- tional Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll. Peggy's humorous and sincere per- sonality makes her a friend to everyone , I - J Pert, pretty, and popular are the words to describe Ann Tapper, editor of the Zephyr, PHS yearbook, If anyone thinks this job is a push- over, you had better think twice, This position is an honor along with a great responsibility, During the rush dead- line date, slow-motioned Ann is the only member of the staff who remains calrn and can accomplish much. Ann has had many honors through her high school days, both by popular vote and through achievement. She is student council reporter, FHA secre- tary, pep squad president, and a mem- ber of the National Honor Society and of the Quill and Scroll. Ann's warm personality and sweet smile have g aine d her many friends throughout her high school days. Producing Editor OF THE WEST WIND Poised and charming Margaret Mulkeyis a well-known person in PHS, Mar garet Ann served as fall co- editor of the West Wind Staff this year, a job which required her to dig up fit subjects for journalism stories to go in the West Wind each week. Student council treasurer and FHA reporter are some other responsibili- ties that Margaret Ann holds, and be- sides doing a good job in all these of- fices, she also keeps her grades at a high level and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll. Margaret Ann has made many friendsin PHS, which is not surprising with her sweet, s in c e r e personality, and her ability to carry on a good con- versation, To the people who have appeared on the last six- teen pages, we extend our sincere congratulations for the recognition they have received at school for deeds done or for personality achievements, The school beauty contest this year was carried out inadifferent way, Each of the four classes in PHS electedtwo girls for the contest. Pictures were made of the eight nominees, and they were then sent to John Robert Power s Modeling School in Dallas. Mr, Charles E. Evans, manager of the school, judged the pictures and selected the most beautiful girl, In the Who's Who section, we have given recog- nition to those who have held o ffi c e s and positions which require a lot of hard work and thoughtfulness. These people carry out these extrafcurricular rce- sponsibilities in addition to the usual routine School work that has to be done.
