Glafu Jlvrjafuf When we entered hrgh school we were 1 confused twenty four Srnce we were not accustomed to takrng each class rn a drffercnt room wrth a drfferent teacher we drdnt know what to do We frnally orrented ourselves to thrs new routrne wrth the help of our prrnclpal, Mr Forrest hrs wrfe and our home room teacher, Mrs For rest and Englrsh teacher Nlr Mae B Heath After hayrns settled dow 1 class offrce s were chosen Dan Wynne began a four year term as clas p f- rdent Vlary L ru ,Ion s selxed as yrce presrdent Ann Jones was secretary a rd Joe ,lohnsor was trc surer To our sorrow, we lost srx of our below-d classmates and garned only one Mary Lou Brannon and Rena lyrae Pollard appa ently weary of Pactolus left us try Belyorr Hrgh The Lnrted States Nayy began to play on Hrlton Brannon s heartstrmgs so off he went The goyernrnerrt needed lr p on rt c mo gn 'ga nst flres, so Earl lxnox stopped to begun hrs career The farm seemed to lraye kept heel-ron ng to J W qperght so he frnally dropp ed out to help hrs dad so he says We tlrrnk he stopped so he could sle p late By thrs tlme Tom Fornes ardent courtshrp had grxen Dorothy Hrrrr roman trc rdeas for a trrp to the altar Thus Dorothy left us to start a new phase of ler lrfe wrth Tom These srx students were a great loss, but then Howell Bone from Whrtakers Hrgh came over to yorn us Howell s amu mg antrcs and wrt has consumed our trme and our hearts He has long ago been recognlzed as class comedran Then before we realrzed rt we had fulfrlled the prereqursrtes for the tenth grade We had the same teachers so rt wasn t drffrcult to fall rnto the same pattern wrth Mrs Heath as home room teacher Agarn, class offrcers were elected Dan Wynne began hrs second year as class presrdent Mary Lou Jones begfrn her second year as vrce presrdent Ann Jones was elected secretary and treasurer Fay Heath was chosen as class reporter for Pacto Hr News whrch was founded that year Brlly Apple and Delbert and Rooseyelt Baker came back from Grrmesland where they attended school whrle we were wrthout a school Cecrl Corbett who temporarrly suspended hrs formal educatron came back to yorn us Thus we began wrth nrneteen students December crept up on us and we along w rth the Senrors journey ed to Chaped Hrll to see the Planetarrum whrch was very educatronal and rnterestrng We also toured Chapel Hrll and Ralergh When we returned after the hollrdavs we welcomed Joe Paramore from Chr cod and Clyde Newby from B l Arthur Thrs made a total of twenty smce Robert Brrley had left us to go to Stokes The ,lunror Senror Banquet for the year arrryed, and frye of us grrls were honored when we were a Led to be wartresses We were Mary Lou Jones Lrla Eastwood Ann Jones, ,lerleen Eyans and raye Heath We had a very rnterestmg trme and enjoyed rt tremrndou ly Two years of hrgh school passed and then we were proud Junrors There were fourteen of us then 1 ' I - ' . - 9 . . . . .
