CONTENTS STUDENT LIFE p. 2 CLASSES p. 14 SPORTS p. 42 ORGANIZATIONS p. 66 FEATURES p. 84 FACULTY p. 100 DEDICATION p. 110 ADS p. 112 2 ACTION, LIGHTS, CAMERA Hey, this theater is really crowded! I didn't think so many people would come to see this movie. Look! There're two good seats! Wow! Look over to the right. There's a mob scene from 'Ben Hur'! Look at those two guys above us. They look like Laurel and Hardy! What's that? The death scene from 'Romeo and Juliet' ?! No, I don't think so. Let's go on to the next scene. 3 4 THE WAY WE WERE 'The Way We Were?' Are you kidding me?! I don't want anybody to know the way I was! This movie even has a Homecoming, a play within a movie, and a tiger by the tail! Nobody can save that tiger! Gee, this is a pretty good movie. Want some popcorn? 5 I CAME IN HOPES Popcorn? Yea, popcorn. No, thanks. What's that? A Christmas tree in this movie? I don't know, but that girl sure can dance! I'm sure finding a lot in this movie. This place isn't dull by any means ! 6 SOMETIMES I WONDER Why am I here? How did I get here? Will it ever be over? 8 9 10 LOOK AT US . Is this a burlesque show? No, stupid, that's just a baton twiler. Looks like a three ring circus with all the different things people are doing. There're people playing chess, just talking, and even trying to learn something! Do you want some milk duds before the movie is over? No, I'll get some after this last scene ! 11 Keep on truckin' is what we’ll have to do as soon as the movie is over! Yea, we’ll really have to move to be home by twelve! These final scenes of The Greatest Show on Earth are really great. There’s some guy doing a ballet dance, the great art exhibit, the acrobats of the gym, and finally the sign we need to see ! Exit, stage right. Even though this part is ended, there will be other sequels ... 12 13 CLASS OF 74 I FRESHMAN CLASS Freshman Class Officers-President-Dennis Blanton; Vice President, Anita Bryant; Special Representative-Evelvn Porter; Secretary-Tres.-Renee Millwood. Only the other side of fall. Oh, if I could have I'd have made you a sunny sky. Hello's the word before good-bye. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it shines yet the things I want are seldom mine. How much of summer can we hold before we turn and find we're old? The things our mirrors tell us are all lies Hello's the word before good-bye. Sometimes it's dark, sometimes it's fair yet when I go home at night nobody's there. Perhaps the next wind that blows in will bring you back to me again. Till then remembering just makes me want to cry, Hello's the word before good-bye. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win yet I can't forget what might have been. CHEROKEE FINISHING COMPANY Gaffney, S.C. o 137 We must appreciate what life is-- to become a part of it, to add what we can, to achieve great and small things. We live in preparation of the future-- planning, learning, understanding; using the present as our means. There may have been or may be better times, but this very own is ours... The 1974 Tomahawk has tried to preserve the images of the past year in this book and project them to you as we have seen them. We hope that you will enjoy the panaramic view that we have tried to create here, and that you will cherish the fond memories of 1973-1974 at P.H.S. 139 1974 TOMAHAWK STAFF EDITOR-IN-CHIEF. . . These creatures came in all sizes, shapes, and colors, and each one had his own little task to complete. Gee! They worked day and sometimes night to get the job done. The head creature, especially, saw to it that her underlings performed their tasks. You could always hear her yelling, Get to work ! ! ! ! We have a deadline coming up! We've got to have those pictures. Most of the time things went smoothly but sometimes weird things happened--like pictures disappearing into nowhere, doors opening and closing without anyone around, and photographers not showing up. That little room where they worked must have been haunted, but the workers were never frightened away. No, sir. Some of you are probably wondering what these creatures were making. Well, they drew funny boxes on blue paper and called these things layouts. Then, they dug through piles and piles of pieces of paper with all kinds of faces on them. Somehow they put it all together and ended with a thing called an ANNUAL. It was decided that you might want to see the finished product, and HERE IT IS! ! 140
