1973 TOMAHAWK PACOL-ET HIGH SCHOOL PACOi.ET, SO. CAR. In my youth I find that joy surrounds me. Much of the joy in my life is brought to me by other people, through a friendly smile and the words, I care , unspoken, but felt just the same. Joy overwhelms me when I realize all the opportunities that await me in a future filled with unlimited possibilities. Joy fills me when I look out a window on a sunny day. 2 I enjoy just being me . When I help someone else I receive much more joy than I could ever hope to give. •ncd when students just don't unmeant words can bring, in that a low cruel and often • removed from im life, fo s idjmess — LOVE} Love, the most precious of all emotions, is a very real and important part of my life. I have that special feeling for one person. The word ’’Love is spoken by so many and used in so many different ways that I often wonder if anyone knows its true meaning. There are many people I have grown to love here at PHS, and though time may later part us, I will always have that same affection for them. LOVE 6 There’s the love that I feel for the sports, activities, and ideals of PHS. There's the love and respect I feel for someone who cares about my future. Pear, that most painful of all emotions, lurks in the shadows of my mind. Seniors have mixed emotion? as they enter their last year at PUS, fear is One of them-the fear that perhaps we arc not yet ready to tve tip the sccurit Mid love that PHS has afforded us. There's t he fear of not being-able to think of enough excuses to get out of class. fe ir Sometimes I'm afraid I won't be in with tire roup.- tilled itfi lo. j- tor the in I1T0.I1 ' ‘ t’l ist I'm often appi cIicnSiye of liuikin a i.Yp n error. live. I have on!v to pick up a newspaper and my heart i FD IR Traded Son A Death %X ,n ¥ s A Murders tfm ■ If you have ever known the warm bonds of friendship, you have experienced the emotions, Joy, Sadness, Love, and Fear. We would like to dedicate the 1973 Tomahawk to you, because you have truly lived by sharing these emotions with a friend. And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship. And he answered, saying: Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace. When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the nay in your own mind, nor do you withhold the ay . And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is acclaimed. When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth; and only the unprofitable is caught. And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. -- Kahlil Gibran 15 Mr. Jimmy Hodge Mr. Mark Stewart Mr. Don Camby Mrs. June Coker 18 19 Mr. Wilcey McDonald Mrs. Pam Seay Mr. Ronald Fisher Mr. Bill Littlefield Mr. Bud Wells Miss Paulette White Administration Mr. Bill Coker-Guidance Counselor Sherril Potter - Secretary 23 District 3 Administration Mr. Gettys Broome-Superintendent, Mr. Roy Fowler, Administrative Assistant, Mr. Ronnie Griffin-Business Manager, Trustees-Mr. William Trent, Mr. W.V. Catherine Coleman Robin Forbis EDITOR'S NOTE The 1973 Tomahawk has been completed-136 pages of pictures and copy that tell the story of this year at P.H.S As I sit alone in the Tomahawk Room with the pages of the final deadline before me, I know it has been worth all the worry, work, and disappointments. This year has been filled with many things: last minute pictures, missed classes, and frayed nerves. But, most importantly, there were people-the student body who make up the book the working and nonworking members of the staff, and the faculty. Even though the book is finished, we are not a group of has-beens , for tomorrow will bring us new experiences and new challenges. I would like to thank the student body for their co-operation, the staff members for their work, and those faculty members who offered encouragement and understanding. I would also like to thank Mr. Frank Creenshaw of Cliffs Studio and Mr. Claude Saleeby of American Yearbook Company for their patient help. Next year's staff, you are verv fortunate for you have a whole year of excitement, fun, and learning waiting for you as you put together your yearbook. 136
