D E D I C A T I 0 N Arithmetic is numbers you squeeze from your head to your hand to your pencil to your paper till you get the answer. Arithmetic is where the answer is right and everything is nice and you can look out of the window and see the blue sky—or the answer is wrong and you have to start all over and try again and see how it comes out this time. What can we seniors say to a teacher who scared the daylights out of most of us when we were squirming, noisy seventh graders ? Or one who caused the bad dreams of our freshman year to take strange X and Y shapes? Or, especially, to one who had the audacity to interrupt our fun-filled senior year with interminable polynomials and logarithms? As the year ends, the answer becomes obvious; for, now we realize that it takes courage to be a strict disciplinarian and that concentrated teacher effort must accompany that of the student if excellence is to be maintained. We have grown, as well, to appreciate this teacher’s warmth, wit, and concern for our future. What can we say to such a teacher? Only a simple but heartfelt, “Thank you, ’’Mrs. Betty Foster, for, to borrow a phrase, caring enough to make us do our very best. It is with sincere gratitude that we dedicate this record of our senior year to you.
