DEDIII!-XTIIJN DEAR MRS. LITTLEJOHN, Because you have given so much of yourself to us, we want to show our appreciation by dedicating our 1956 TOMAHAWK to you. Each person in your English and civics classes has profited from your teachings and has gone out better prepared for life. In addition to your regular classroom work, you found time to sponsor the Student Council, to plan clever decorations for the parades, and make all Halloween carnivals a success. From the very beginning your friendliness, helpfulness, and kindness have made for you a multitude of friends. We hope you remember us, for we shall never forget you. We were very much surprised to see that our lives in school would change very much in this, our really first experience in high school. We felt much more important to ourselves than to others as we walked briskly from class to class with our chests filled with a new and warming pride. How we admired those seniors as they towered above us, taking long-legged strides down the hallways and we, nearly killing ourselves, tried to keep up with them. We watched with wide-eyed amazement as they changed classes carrying but one small book, distinctly separating them from our book laden selves. We were deeply amazed by this new routine of changing classes, going to the gymnasium, cafeteria and attending study hall, but we were a part of this new life, and our out-of-place feeling soon vanished. The following year we entered Pacolet High as freshman, being privileged that year to choose our subiects, vote in class elections, join various clubs, and wish for the day to come when we would be seniors. The next September we were labeled sophomores and could take positions on the TELAPACO and TOMAHAWK staffs, Student Council, and various other clubs. Newer phases of school life were opened to us for more added enjoyment, learning, and mean- ing to our lives. The year 1955 came and we were the iuniors of Page Ten Pacolet High School. Now we would occupy more important positions, and play big roles in sports. That year the Junior Class presented a play, Me and My Shadow , Toward the end of the year we found ourselves planning the Junior-Senior Banquet. It was hard work for all of us, but we enioyed it, and it was a big success. ln the fall of 1955 we again entered Pacolet High in the greatest role that we had ever played in our school career. We were full-fledged seniors. Almost immediately we found ourselves getting accustomed to this new life by ordering rings, invitations, and earning money for our Washington trip. This is the year when we were guests of the Juniors at the Junior-Senior Banquet, when we received our rings, one of the most prized possessions of our lives, and one which we shall always cherish. After Christmas we put the finishing touches on our senior play, Take Your Medicine. Then the day of graduation arrived. On this day we suddenly realized that we were ending our high school days. The daily routine of classes and activi- ties ended, but memories of our friends, classmates, and teachers whom we loved and admired so much will never vanish, but will forever occupy a part of our lives. Upon leaving Pacolet High School, we, the Senior Class of 1956, with great pride leave all the wonderful joys and few sorrows of senior class life to our successors, the Senior Class of 1957. May they enioy it as much as we have. -Don Weathers 1 , il, l Qfflfu L 0 WAYNE ALLEN MELISSA ARNOLD KEN BEAN Give me music and girls and I will seek no other delight. 5 Glee Club 15 Tumbling 'I5 Bus rivers Club 3, 45 Pres. of Bus rivers Club 45 Dramatics Club , 45 Sec. of Dramatics Club 35 tuclent Council 45 Hobby Club , 45 Art Club 45 Science Club 45 enior Play. Since the seventh and eighth grades do not belong to the high school glee club, this organization affords them train- ing in choral work. There are about fifty-three mem- bers in the club. The group presented a very interest- ing Thanksgiving program. Mr. David Hottel is director of the group. The chorus is a source of pleasure for many stu- dents. lt serves as a means of taking our school into the community, when different churches are visited in the spring. These visits are made as a public service. Two concerts are given annually by members of the chorus. A small admission is charged and the money has been used to help buy a Hammond organ for the school. This course carries one-half unit credit per year, but does not count toward state requirements for graduation. CO-DIRECTORS MR. H. T. BLACKWELL MRS.
