Pacifica ' s production of Wait Until Dark was an exer- cise in theatrical terror. The plot revolved around a blind woman named Suzi who unwittingly came into possession oi a musical doll that contained several kilos of heroin. An unscrupulous thug called Roat enlisted the help of two small time con men in an attempt to coerce Suzi into handing the doll over to them, to no avail. A jealous nine year old girl had stolen the doll. By the lime that the doll was back in Suzi ' s possession, she was aware of who the three men were, and understood why the doll was so impor- tant to them. Bravely Suzi decided to keep the doll out of the criminal ' s hands. This set the stage for a suspenseful life or death confrontation between Roat and Suzi that took place in almost complete darkness. The story centers on a love affair between Sid Sorokin (the new factory superintendent) and Babe Williams (the grievance Committee of the Local Pajama Workers Union). Complications set in when Babe and the union fight for a 7 V2 cent raise and Sid doesn ' t want to lose his new job by siding with the union.
