THEATRE ARTS Pacific's actors, under the direction of Professor Theodore Sizer, got off to a successful start in October with their production of The lVIan Who Came to Dinner . Sheridan Whiteside CLaird Thorntonl, a radio orator and famous personality is injured at a dinner party in the home of lVlr. and lVlrs. Ernest W. Stanley lSheri Fisher and Bill Lambertl. Whiteside is confined to a wheelchair and must remain in the middle class Stanley household until he recuperates. The plot unfolds as the insulting Whiteside becomes involved in everyone else's affairs, and generally creates havoc in everyone's lives. The final play of the fall term was Thornton Wilder's Our Town , a production which happened to coincide with the death of that most honored and respected playwright. Professor Ted Sizer directed and for the first time in his years at Pacific, took a major role in the drama. A number of actors from the community added a varied and professional touch to the production. A musical and a serious play with the probability of Karl lVlalden, famous actor, contributing his talents was scheduled for the spring. if fi: i

Cohen had spent months working on Uwe jewelry under direction of Portland jeweler, David Frank. Other displays during the year included the brilliantly reflective and highly polished sculpture of Portland artist, Bruce West, in November. Chrome plating predominated in his exhibit, varied with stainless steel and brass in some pieces. lVlany students displayed the fruits of their endeavors in the library during the year, and some works were presented in the Optometry School clinic, to involve yet another group of prospective art buffs.
