J BALLAD TOWN U.S.A. Another aspect of involvement comes between the university and the community of Forest Grove. Every year for the pass 30 years, Forest Grove holds a Northwest Barber Shop Ballad Contest. Thousands of people turn up for the contest and are inspired with the authentic Gay Nineties atmosphere that Forest Grove puts together. lVIarch 5-6 was the date of this year's contest. The theme was l am a Yankee Doodle Dandee in response to the nation's bicentennial year. A featured act was the Sun Tones from IVliami Beach, Florida, one of the best quartet in the U .S .A. Also a regular with the festivities is the parade through town and the dance girls. One of Pacific's professors, Albert Hingston and the Assistant Director of University Relations, George Horner, have been involved with this contest for years. Pacific girl students usually make up the line of dance girls. 27
