PHI BETES FOOTBALL 1964 Pacific completed its 1964 football season with a 4-4 record and an official third place tie with Willamette in Northwest Conference play. Unofficially, however, the Badgers were 5-3 and had the undisputed third in NWC action. The change in record occurred when Pacific was forced to forfeit a hard earned 7-0 victory over College of Idaho because of the use of two ineligible players. For Badger followers, this is the first winning season under the reins of Noah Allen, who took over the head coaching position in 1961. This 1964 season may only be a preview of what is in store, for the future looms bright as Allen will welcome back 25 lettermen, many of whom were t rt s a ers. The victories included wins over Portland State College, Oregon College of Education, Whitman and Williamette with the losses to College of Idaho l2-0 forfeitl, Pacific Lutheran, Lewis and Clark and Linfield. Highlighting the season was the 21-14 homecoming victory over Williamette. Before the 2,000 partisan fans, the Badger defense held time after time to thwart the last minute Bearcat scoring bids. Statistically, the Badgers were lead hy quarterback Dick Wiese. Wiese, for the second straight year, finished on top of the Northwest Con- ference in two departments, passing and total offense. The little field general from Independence completed 90 of 168 attempted passes for 1018 yards and six touchdowns. This net passing yardage, combined with the 260 rushing, gave Wiese a total offense of 1278 and an eight place national ranking. Also figuring prominently in Badger stars were Mike Calvert, who rushed for 530 yards and was the conference runner-up in that department, Dennis Ingram, the leading team pass receiver with 33 grabs for 313 yards, and Fred Willis, another top receiver with 22 catches. As a team, Pacific had a total offensive average of 301 yards a game which placed them third in the conference behind Linfield and Lewis and Clark. Breaking this down, Pacific averaged 163 yards a game on the ground and 138 in the air. Defensively, the Badgers allowed a game average of 281 yards which was only good for a fifth in the NWC. Most of this yardage was allowed on the ground with a total game average of 174 being yielded while only 106 was given through the airways. Individual honors were abundantly awarded to members of this year's team. The biggest of them all was Wiese, who was unanimously select- ed to the NWC All-Star team, Honorable Mention Little All-Coast and Honorable Mention Little All-American. Along with Wiese, Dick Daniels was also chosen unanimously for the All-Conference team. Daniels was a standout defense back. Given first team honors also was hard hitting senior fullback, Mike Calvert. Receiving honorable mention on the NWC All-Star team were offensive performers Dennis Ingram, halfback, Bob Moeller, tackle, Bob Peacock, tackle, Royden Watanabe, halfback and end Fred Willis. Defensively Tom Grigg, tackle and Bob Roark, end and guards Bob Hamilton and Art Rey- nolds were chosen. Elected cocaptains for next season were juniors Bob Moeller and Dick Daniels. Q
