We dedicate . . . this book to Dr. Reu Everett Hoon, one who has become a part of the tradition of PUC- but more than that, a brilliant scholar, an outstanding teacher, and a be- liever in young people. His students will not soon forget his slight, stooped Hgure, and clear blue eyesg nor his way of enliven- ing his classes with a pithy remark and an infectious smile. His complete command of the field of chemistry, his clear and pre- cise lectures, and his breadth of general knowledge have won for him our highest regard. His quiet Christian life has taught us much about a realistic, conquering Christian faith.
