You look into the sad but handsome face, then drop your eyes to the pedestol to read: I regret that I have but one hfe to give for my country— Nathan Hale. The present war emergency brings every citizen face to face with the imperative obligation of loyalty. It was Theodore Roosevelt who enunciated a saving principle in this slogan. We must all be Americans and nothing else. Students your college seeks to upbuild and embellish your lives, making attractive by precept and example the teachings and principles of the Master architect. For many months it has been your privilege to be at P U C For this privilege you owe a debt of great responsibility to your less favored or yet expectant brothers and sisters. This obligation is more urgent today than ever before. Therefore, as you return to your home communities for the vacation period, may you adapt the Roosevelt slogan and bring this message to our denominational youth: We must all be Christians and nothing else. ' In word and deed may you be impelled by the heaven-born principle of loyalty to uphold everywhere and always the high and holy teachings of your Alma Mater. Here it is that man builds a sanctuary and dwells v ith God. The religious, the deep, and the spiritual find their place in a heart that is attuned to the great heart above. Love is the very essence of God and this same love He plants in the heart of His follower and bids him love as he has been loved. Nineteei ' — ««ll FIRST SEMESTER: The religious life of the college is kept burning by the enthusiastic and consecrated leadership of the officers of its Missionary Volunteer Society. In many lands, under many difficult and discouraging conditions modern disciples, alumni of our college, are carrying the cross of Christ to those who know Him not. Tucked into the program was A Coppella quartet and the Trumpet Trio. The social calendar of Pacific Union College was topped this yeor by the traditional Mother-Daughter Dinner, a biennial event. The gathering was especially delightful, for in spite of gas rationing, over two hundred mothers came to the Hilltop.
