Hauge Besides undertaking the Herculean task of un- scrambling more than 400 student schedules each semester as Registrar, Dean Philip E, Hauge also holds the even more important and more difficult office of Dean of the College. Acting as a connect- ing link between students and administration, he is on the inside of the numerous problems of the college and its students. In close association with the College of liducation division, he is head of the Placement Bureau. He came here from St. Olaf Col- lege in l920 to be professor of education and psvcholf ogy. A perpetual disturber of the peace to those with an overdue board bill. Mr. Theodore Nelsson is known as 'Athe man who comes around. Dreaming of dollar signs in red ink at night and surrounded by huge books and long columns of figures during the day, Mr. Nelsson finds himself in the position of Business Manager, an office which he has held since l9'57. Before that he was Dean of Men. He came here in 1932. All the girls inter ested in athletics are members ol' the XV. A. A.. providing they are able to pass the required physical examination. ln working for their letters. the girls not only gain worthwhile knowledge for their teaching careers but also enjoy many hours of fun and lrolic. As an inducement to keener competition. Miss Hokenstad and the various sports managers chose all-star teams in each sport. Rewarded for work well done. members ol' these honor teams received 25 points towards their letters. The annual gym demonstration took place in liebruary. the girls exhibiting the year's accomplish' ments in the way ol' folk dances. games and march:s. Climax of the evening was the initial perform ance of the baton-twirling corps. a new entrant into the sports field this year. 'lihe group consists ol' seven student twirlers under the direction of Georgiana Atkinson. Captainball turnouts started the l9-lO season otl' with a bang. 'lihe games were action-filled and exciting. Girls making teams received l0O hard-earned points toward their letters, ln the Round- Robin Tournament the Juniors. showing their superiority in skill and experience. captured the cham- pionship. Out for revenge. the l.iberal Arts walked away with the volleyball championship. Nlost talked ol' game occurred when the l.iberal Arts took ll straight points. blanking their opponents. 'lihis seemed to be a banner year for the mighty l.iberal Arts team. lfor basketball. too. saw them emerge victorious. 'l'he competition was keen. each team consisting ol' fast and skillliul players. 'lihe lireshmen, unsatisfied with their narrow defeat by the l.iberal Arts. challenged them to a return show' ing which took place at half-time ot' the P. l.. C-Bellingham game.
