Baseball ASEBALL, long the only outdoor sport at Pace College, has come a long way since its beginning in 1948. In their initial season, the Setters faced only six opponents as compared to the ambitious sev- enteen-game schedule for 1951. Although the team finished the last campaign with a dismal record of three wins and nine losses, they were hampered by the lack of proper practice facilities. Baseball Coach Peter X. Finnerty led the squad through the twelve-game season that was marked by sportsmanship and good play, if not glory. The team was composed of holdovers from past seasons. Co-Captains john Sussina and Al Maz- zocchi, Terry Miserendino, Lou Amendola, Mel Becourtney, Jim Tassi, Ken Wtirm, Ralph Innace, George Holland, Bob Pascuzzi, Ray Brown, Len Isselbacher, Dick Wakeford, George Teano, and Manager Art Escudero were the returning players. Newcomers to the squad were: Tom Comsudes, George Murray, Bob Gasko, and Bob Ziskind. In the 1950 opener, the Setters dropped a close decision to john Marshall College, 9-7. Following a loss to the Farmingdale Aggies, the Pace nine triumphed over Fairleigh Dickinson, 9-5, for their initial win. The Setters then slumped and dropped six games in a row to St. Francis Q4-35, Queens C7-4j, Pratt C9-8j, Adelphi Q8-Oj, Panzer C10-5j, and Drew Q10-7j. Victory again broke through the dark clouds as Bob Pascuzzi repeated his earlier triumph over Dickinson, 11-4. The Setters finished the season by splitting a double- header with Jersey City Teachers College, win- ning the nightcap 7-6, after dropping the opener 15-0. Prospects for the 1951 season are good, al- though only one regular is remaining, Coach Finnerty is confident that he can rebuild the base- ball team, and that they will return to the win- ning path.
