c X t ' u ticaiion The nation ' s defense and war efforts have re- emphasized to the Board of Education the impor- tance of our high schools. Today, good classroom work pays immediate dividends. The War is requir- ing young people to do big things with a minimum of time for preparation. Efficiency and thoroughness cannot be gained in a short time unless you have acquired good study habits and are in good physi- cal condition. A nation at war cannot wait for its high school graduates to travel the long road of hard knocks. It must rely on those who can take immediate advantage of the experience and train- ing of others, which must be secured from books and manuals and from instructors. In the military forces, in defense industry factories, and in govern- ment service the basic high school courses in Eng- lish, science, mathematics, industrial arts, commer- cial subjects and many others will enable our stu- dents to do a better job for Uncle Sam. l Ictiipczsluv First Ward N.
