As time has gone by, many changes have taken place at Ozona High School. Students and teachers began the new year with a move in- to the newly renovated old, stone, building now renamed the Heritage Building. Time goes by much too quickly for most students now as they must hurry from one building to another to avoid the tardy bell which doesn't allow much time for conversations with classmates. The Heritage Building features large, pleasant classrooms with carpeting, and includes computer science, art, and journalism as well as math and English. A mini- auditorium for speechfdrama and Cosmetology facilities have been added. The vocational agricultural pro- gram expanded with a new project of raising broilers. Also cosmetology was offered in OHS for the first time. The passage of time saw the athletics program at OHS experien- cing ups and downs with a losing football season and winning basket- ball season for the boys. The athletic year was a mixed one for the girls. Students grew in maturity as they accepted the additional respon- sibilities of the No pass-no play rule and the TEAMS test. But, students still found time to enjoy socializing on the drag and at various dances throughout the year. As time passes by OHS students will continue to meet whatever challenges will face them at school and later in life. it lmsig ,wtf 4 L . ali ...... - .... 9 Lion fans show true school spirit as they rally at one of the football games played in Lior Stadium. DAVID ADAMS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Adams, graduates magna cum laude with a four year average of 7.13. David's future plans include Angelo State University. He received a Carr scholarship and a salutatorian certificate. On behalf of the graduating class of 1986, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our parents, our relatives, and our friends to our commencement exercises. We are all very proud that we have reached this magnificent goal, but now it is time for us to move on and become productive members of our society. A noted English poet, Robert Browning, once said, A man's reach must exceed his grasp or what's a heaven for? For the past thirteen years we have all been SALUTATORIAN .4 mark of duration as an individual is how well you achieve the goals you establish for yourself. It is important that these goals be difficult and challenging. It is also important that your goals include a basic consideration and respect for other people. Take pride in today's accomplishments, for they lead to tomorrow's success. I would like to thank all of my teachers for their support and guidance throughout the years. But I would especially like to thank my ki ae Although we, the class of '86, have accomplished one milestone ii our lives, it is time for us to begin l again. Our goals have all basically . been the same for the past thirteen years, but since we are now going our separate ways, each one of us will have new goals and new perspectives on life. I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of my classmates the best of luck in whatever they do, and I know they will all do very well. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU. THANK struggling for this goal, our high parents and brother and sisters for YOU. school graduation. But now it is time all the encouragement they have Salutatozry addres: for us to reach out as far as we can given me, because without them l by David Adam: to obtain our ultimate goals. Your would have no goals to strive for. VALEDICTORIAN This poem says much about what we can do to make our lives fulfilling and successful. Each of our aspirations may be different. Some may be planning to further their education and others will be joining the workforce. Whatever we do or wherever we go, we must believe in ourselves to achieve our goals. In life there is no certain outcome. ln every contest, chance plays a commanding role. As we leave the comfort of home and the support of our community, we leave with the knowledge that life is indefinite but holds infinitely more BONNIE CAMERON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cameron, has a four year average of 7.24 to graduate magna cum laude. The average is computed on a 1 to 7 scale. Bon- nie has future plans to study accounting at Baylor University. She received a valedictory certificate and a Texas state scholarship which is presented to the valedictorian of each high school class Valedictory address lf you'll remember always There's no goal you can't achieve lf you'll try your very hardest And above all else, believe- Believe that you're a person Who has something good to give- Believe that you can make the world A better place to live- lf you'll believe your talents And your skills are needed, too Then you're sure to find There's nothing in the world You cannot do! rewards than a trophy or a prize. What we have learned thus far will help us to know what our goals are. But ultimately the most important thing we must remember is to believe in yourself . Strive for the best and highest. Remember your lessons well. Whatever you wish for the future, wherever your dreams may lead, may you find that they bring you happiness and the courage to succeed. GOOD LUCK AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU. Bonnie Cameron at Commencement The big moment has finally arrived! The graduation class of 1986 sits patrently and listens to various addresses before receiving their long anticipated diplomas Brad Thompson discusses a few things with Kim Williams and Amy Scoggins. After the familiar processional to the strains of Pomp and Circumstancen, cum laude stu- dent Ptaedene Flores gave the invocation. Salutatorian David Adams welcomed graduates and visitors. Third ranked student Harvey Fierro spoke on memories , but asked his classmates to remember that what lies within them is more important than what lay behind or may be ahead. Fourth ranked cum laude student Brad Thompson ex- horted his fellows to continue to strive for excellence. The valedictory address by Bonnie Cameron, magna cum laude student, continued the theme of setting goals and striving for excellence. After students received their various awards, honor student Amy Beth Scoggins closed the program with a benediction. Pomp and Circumstance again accom- panied the students slow march, this time in the reces- sional as they turned their backs on the past and look forward to the future. Amy Beth Scoggins and Fiaedene Flores remind all present that friends are friends forever in a duet during commencement exercises. As the smallest school with the lightest players in the district, the Lions had the odds against them from the outset. But team members agreed that they gained from their football season despite a 2-8 record. The effort put forth by the team surpassed their record. Their optimistic attitudes are, perhaps, best reflected in the comments of some of the senior players. I wouldn't trade this season for anything, said Bret Thompson, a senior tackle. We had a fun season, quarterback Steve Sanchez said. The coaches taught us a lot, and the year went by fast. We are all winners in some way, captain David Adams said, summing up the season. Lions are alert and ready to move at Colorado City. T . . - .. . ,. .... A. .X .N .. V... . . ..-al, -:wf:sv:ff':w,,..s- sesasQ2falsass::ts Junior Varsity Team Looks To Future .ax N A x Q 5.
