The North Elementary School and the Junior High School p r e s e nt e d t he room winners of the Story Telling and the Declamation Contests on April Z4 in the High School Auditorium. Winners in each grade were selected by out-of-town judges. In the Junior High School, the boys and girls did not compete against each other, according to Inter- scholastic League rules. ln the North Elementary School, the competition was opento bothboys and girls. Mr. Brock Jones, President of the School Board, presented ribbons to the winners of these contests and to the winners of the spelling contest, which were held previously in the North,Elementary School. David Price won sec ond place in the district compet- ition and represented O. H.S, in the regional meet at Brownwood. Marion Mock was our Doris West our ready writer, and Joe Bailey H 1 entered slide rule. I 0 Our declaimers--Wanda Carden, Kent Chapman and Jane Adams. Wanda won third place for Senior girls at the State meet, Kent won second place for Junior Boys and Jane won 3rd place for Junior girls in the District Meet. - Extemporaneous speaker

We were disappointed in our assemblies this year, because we didn't have enough ofthem. The bestones were put on by the Dept. of Public Safety and by the Band. We hope that next year we will have more and better assemblies. K A x 'sg-4' , 'm A grim statistic anyone of us could become, a list oftraffic deaths in our area during the first few months of 1952. These lectures by the High- way Patrol, sometimes accompanied b y f i l m s , brought realization of what teenacide is and the serious- ness ofthe situation on our highways. J Our Assemblies ' What goes on before the curtain parts andthe band begins its first number? The squeak of tuning instruments, laughter, talk, and finally Mr. Smith: , X Quiet! Here the band performs for .a morning assembly.
