It was a highly successful season, even though the team Won only four games while losing five. three of which should have been won. v qle start of the season found a squad of players that had no exper- ience in college play. with no nucleus around which to build. and pa new coach who had to build from the very bottom. ln spite of these handicaps. however. the Lions establish- ed a reputation throughout Missouri. Oklahoma. Kansas and Arkansas that will last. and that will be a standard for future teams to uphold. We highest class teams that Doc Moon could find were played. It was against such teams as the Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. the Arkansas University Freshmen that the Lions established their reputation as a clean. hard fighting bunch of players. We take this opportunity to congratulate XVesleyan's team of '25 for their spirit of loyalty: their sportsmanship. which was clean at all times: and their record. Too much credit cannot possibly be given Coach Frank fDocl Moon for developing the team that upheld the honor of O. VV. C. on the white-lined gridiron. 971s season's games follow: A SPRINGFIELD TEACHERS' COLLEGE Played in a sea of mud and A during a steady rain. Although beaten 48-0, the Lions made a game fight against one of the best teams in Missouri. In this game. Mc- Gaughey. outstanding star. sustained a broken ankle. and was laid on the shelf for the remainder of the season. It was a hard blow for the Lions. FORT SCOTT JUNIOR COLLEGE The Lions came home with the long end of a 13-0 score. Ragland. Gibbons and Lewis starred. Ragland gained well over 100 yards on forward passes. BAC ONE INDIANS A On the following week., Wesleyan played her first home game with the Bacone Indians as opponents and lost 15-12. although leading 12-7 until the last minute of play. Then the Indians completed a 40 yard pass for a touchdown. The Lions outplayed and outfought the Indians and deserved to win. The work of Gibbons, McWilliams and Bolin stood out. Wesleyan's remaining punter. Charlie Cummings. received a broken collar bone. leaving the Lions without a kicker for the rest of the season. page ninety-four g5'?+l926'3'qg3
