HSHLHR Ygtg gtgmsa PHLLOMHTHEHN LITERHRY SOCIETY ELATIVELY speaking, the Philomathean Literary Society is an old practical if Y democracy. It believes that all men should have equality of opportunity. 6175 The membership is not limited to any class of young men., whether the classification be physical. economic or social. However, although we do not requirea superior intelligence. perfection of morality or highest scholarship as entrance requirements, the society has some restrictions which are essential for the proper fulfil- ment of its aims. The Philomathean Literary Society has always strived to do some good. to im- prove and train young men in every Way possible and especially in literary ability. Never has a young man who joined these friends of learning failed to realize some benefit from the associations. training and encouragement received from his fellow-Philos. whether in mastering the word of speech. the written word or parliamentary dexterity. In the bi- weekly meetings., members are givenlthe opportunity to appear before an audience in debates, orations. musical numbers and Written articles. as well as in parliamentary pro- csdure, Receptions. banquets. frat meetings serve both as a means for training in social etiquette and as a means of satisfying the desires for recreation. T16 Philomathean Literary Society has, this year, completed its fifty-third year of success ful active life. From the beginning up to the present. there is nothing of which the members may be ashamed. On the contrary. they 'take pride in the ideals and standards established by the pioneers ofthe society. They are proud to belong to the oldest organization in Ozark Wesleyan. They have no less pride in the part which they played in increasing the school spirit and in adding to the standards of the Alma Mater. From a prospective point of view, the Philomathean Literary Society feels assured that its future means a bigger field to reach. a higher goal for which to strive, more pro- gress to be accomplished. The members are confident that their society shall live and grow as long as Ozark Wesleyan continues to function. And WHO doubts that this great institution shall live? The confidence in the society is not ill-founded. Have they not their past record as a foundation? Have they not their present efforts as the build- ing material? And have they not their ambitions to spur them on? page one hundred twenty-six Qgwfgigwdiqiws fwgfg Eet'926tQ swigtggssngtjtw
