As in previous years. a tournament was staged this season. It was received with enthusiasm, as attested by the twenty-two entries. The tournament was carried on successfully, some brilliant matches being staged. In the first round Putnam beat Stephenson: A. Springer beat Webb: Collier beat Weaver: James beat Campbell: Mccaughey beat Magill: Ryder beat Walters: Rout beat Lewis: Oldham beat C. Cummings: Wood beat Morgan: Martin beat Davis: and Duffendaclc beat G. Cum- mings. In the second round, Putnam conquered Springer: Collier trimmed James: Ryder beat Mccaughey: Oldham beat Rout: Wood drew a bye: and Duffendaclc beat Martin. In the third round, Collier beat Putnam: Oldham beat Ry-der: and Duffendaclc beat Wood: leaving Collier Oldham and Duffendaclc. al Collier and Oldham drew the first match and Duffendacli drew a bye. Oldham triumphed over Collier in three hard-fought and spectacular sets, ll-9: 2-6: 8-6. Oldham and Duffendaclt then played for the school championship. A doubles tournament was to be played, but 'the drawings and play were too late to be included in this account. Tennis has gained a strong hold on college sport lovers.
