EMWWHMWE ASW-HR 8W5.s.m29sQs...af 5+Us...4'9+g BASKETBALL HE basketball season of Ozark Wesleyan has become-a matter of record in the annals of the college and Southwest Missouri. U The Lions finished the 1925-1926 season with the last game at Bolivar. As it-was with football. the games won and lost did not overwhelmingly favor the Lions of the blue and Gold. but it was such an advance in the caliber of the teams played and the results obtained from games with these teams over last year that the season may well be called a huge success. q7ze season's record shows the Lions with six games won and an equal number lost. while collecting 251 points to their opponents' 293. The Lions defeated every team which defeated them except the jinx..-the Bacone Indians. another one-point margin game. They had a one-game margin on the Y. M. C. A. of Joplin and Springfield Bus- iness. but lost three out of four to Bolivar. Their greatest victory was over Draughon's Business College of Springfield. and the hardest defeat to swallow was the one-point victory 25-24 gained by Bacone. As in the case of football. Coach Moon tool: a new bunch of players and made a real quintet of them. one that was respected by all the teams in the vicinity. A large share of the season's glory rightfully goes to Doc '. At the start of the season. Maynard Jones was captain. but on his being forced to quit school. a new captain was elected in the person of Garrett Cummings. who efficiently led his men for theremainder of the year. Ac the close of the season. Seth Gibbons. star forward of the team. was chosen to lead the team of 1927. 7714 seasons' games follow: JOPLIN Y. M. C. A. 'Une Lions won in the last ten seconds of play 19-18. when a brilliant floor-length shot from the hands of Gibbons swished through the net without touching the rim. DRAUGI-ION'S BUSINESS COLLEGE We lost 18-10. The team simply had an off night and cou1dn't hit the basket. JOPLIN Y. M. C. A. The team was lost on the foreign court. We lost 33-32. Nobody could hit any- tliing but Gibbons. who had a nice night with a total of nineteen points. is sf. page one hundred two Nagsifmdwsgsgwljg gsslsazasg gwsgngssgvj. gcqspf, 59.
