We, of the yearbook staff, have tried to capture a few :3- glimpses of these times. We hope you enjoy our attempt. However, listening 7 . F- 'i to our elders, we know that you probably will appreciate this book even more 5 in. Z ' f in years to come. 1-, 1: ' This is the purpose of a yearbook. It keeps alive the memories of times 1 A? I: that have long since passed, the times when you were just learning the answers W - to some of the mysteries of the world. You were gaining a basis for your . J 3-; T chosen field of work. '- ' To have something you must start somewhere. Today that somewhere is . school. Tomorrow is might be another place. But, whatever you do, you are laying the groundwork for another advance. With each advance comes still - . one more advance. On and on goes this cycle. Alexander Graham Bell in- ! vented the telephone. Other men followed him and made further improve- .. ' ments. As you know, revisions are continually being made. R Everything is life moves along this same path. Accordingly, the theme for the 1962 ORBIT is CHANGING TIMES. The reason for this dedication is simple; Mr. Fiedler has been a guiding light in the development of our educational horizons. Since our first days of centralization, we have experienced a varied number of progressions in education, all of which emphasize the quality of leadership which we now possess. He, together with the Board of Ed- ucation, has helped us in making great educational strides which should make us justly proud of our students, faculty and community. , O, M what .4 - h . - ' kfm ,3, ' DHSTRHCT ADMINISTRATG RS MT. The ultimate hope of all of us is that you as a person have taken one more step toward a better, more fulfilled life in our democratic society. The new junior high school now under construction is a tribute to your parents and the Board of Education. More important, however, it symbolizes our educational achievements and progress, of which you are a very important part. As you meet the next educational challenge, we will be proud to bask in the reflection of your future achieve- ments knowing, that in some measure, we helped you take your rightful place in our country as responsible and worthwhile citizens. MR. ANTHONY DESTEF ANO YEARBOOK ADVISOR 75 LOOKING TO THE F UTURE Thinking, planning and working are the stuff of which the future is made. But first, we must appre- ciate the past. We must take the best of what the past offers. From there, we go on to new heights of achievement . . . This is the principle, we, the yearbook staff wish to impress upon you by the theme we have used. In our own district we have seen the one-room school house of 1910 develop in- to plans for the multi-million dollar junior high school building now under construction. Right now, we as students can set up future achievements by doing the best we possibly can in our studies. AW LT. COL. JOHN GLENN Within this centm-y have emerged many outstanding individuals who are excellent models for us to imitate. People laughed at Or- ville and Wilbur Wright. Now they and the KITTY HAWK are .na- tional institutions. Defying death, Charles A. Lindbergh became a world hero by his trans-Atlantic flight in his famed SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS. In this space age our man is Lt. Col. John Glenn. While we sat in our classrooms, on February 20, 1962, Colonel Glenn opened up a new world of opportunity for us. In 1903 the KITTY HAWK was only able to cover 851 feet in its flight. In 1962 the FRIENDSHIP SEVEN circled the globe three times. There is no doubt that these are CHANGING TIMES.
