Each day was punc- tuated with Mikie's barks and visions of praying mantises. Some of us climbed the backyard apple tree, and the more daring wore loafers to school. Then our dreams of senior year came closer as we took a giant step across the street. - - - ln '50 we fought our way to the mirror to apply lipstick for the bus ride home. Kristi drew pictures of ERNPS in Mr. Wilcock's ninth period study hall and the rest of us struggled over Miss Lawrence's melborps . Miss Storrs nonchalantly ignored Priscilla's famous atomizer, and Miss Lasell sent Sheila running home in her stadium boots for forgotten shoes. We ascended into upper school at last. ................. Like freshmen before us we madly tried out for clubs, and attended our first Oxford formal. Hopie defied gravity by piling up water glasses at first lunch. Certain members of Latin class were intro- duced to Miss Wuori's Porcullus, into which they drained allow- ances with horrible regularity. ---- ------ When we moved into Room 3, the newly removed trees in the front yard were the cause of much surprise. The Senior Class honored us with a party at Judy Molinar's house, which we reciprocated with the traditional Senior- Sophomore picnic in the spring. Miss Harry's Tien, tien, mes enfants in vain exhorted us to stop scribbling on the blackboards before school. Various members of the History class were periodically sent to the study hall for ignominious conduct. To the amusement of the school, our class appeared in clashing shades of green and gray one morning. ------'-- Our class began the year with five new members, an unusual number for anyjunior year. This year also witnessed the acquisition of our inanimate mascot Puddles , purchased at the Oxford Fair, and our animate mascot, Margie's Russdane's Autobiography . We sacrificed a day's study halls to watch the house next door go up in Flames, and began to picture tennis courts in its place. In the spring, at the announcement of Miss Deckelman's engagement, Oxford prepared to lose another secretary, and the juniors honored her in April with a shower at Pam Connolly's house. --------- We were welcomed to our Senior year with a redecorated lounge and natural gas in the fireplace logs. We hopefully tried to forecast the future by marching in caps and gowns at the Old-Girl New-Girl Party. We also shuttled back and forth through New York City, visiting the United Nations as tourists and inspecting the Wall Street Stock Exchange. Safford proceeded to startle the class by going to see Miss Evans unaware of the pipe in her mouth. During the second semes- ter, an epidemic of knitting hit the lounge, with only partial recovery of all those dropped stitches. Pine Orchard and the Richards' hospitality made the Senior house party a welcome change after final exams at the end of the year. '-'----------------- - l37l Tha!
