Mu RONNIE CROW - MA© Achievement Award Winner Alpha Theta Activities First State-Wide Mu Alpha Theta Convention March 24-25, 1972 The purpose of the Mu Alpha Theta is to promote mathematics among high school students. The Oxford High School Mu Alpha Theta has attempted to fulfill this purpose in many ways this school year. Fifty eager MA© members convinced Mr. Character that they were sincere when they suggested hosting the first state-wide MA© Convention at O.H.S. After gaining approval for this project, the club was divided into committees to carry out the tasks necessary to host a convention. MA© Sweethearts Initiation ceremony held at Holiday Inn. After much work and splendid club cooperation, the first state-wide MA© Convention was held March 24-25 at O.H.S. with 240 MA© members, guests, and leaders present. Ronnie Crow of O.H.S. received the MA© Achievement Award for his outstanding leadership. Throughout the year the MA© participated actively in several projects: 1) A formal ceremony was held at Holiday Inn to initiate new members. 2) The MA© Homecoming Float entry captured second place prize. 3) Twenty-five MA© members participated in the Samford University Mathematics Tournament. 4) The MA© hosted the MAA Mathematics Exam again this year. 5) The MA© contributed $200 to the mathematics department for math teaching aids. 6) The MA© participated in the Huffman High School Mathematics Tournament in Birmingham.
