SOCIETY NEWS: Dean Boyles, Secretary to executive director of MGM, John Allan Whiteside was seen with playboy, Kenneth Brewer, attending the premier of Bridge Over Coldwater starring Glenn Combs. Martha Ann Haynes, soloist in the Fred Warring Chorus, is at this time touring Europe. On this page was noticed a picture of model, Elaine Sims, wearing one of the new- est style dresses. Ward Burt's Dance Band starring Cynthia Hart, who has a way with a song, will appear at Buck's Night Club soon. The feature attraction, Hula Dancer, Brenda McGhee will also entertain. The former Judy Sewell gave her eight-year old daughter, Carol a party to cele- brate her birthday. Sue Robertson, now a librarian in New Orleans, and her family are visiting in Oxford. Jerry Leemaster is a guest at Eva Gunter's Ye Olde Maids fand Bachelors tool Home. Her two star boarders, Geraldine Mize and Ann Suddeth, are combining their talents to entertain him. Dianne Rosamond, buyer of Hudson's, has iust returned from a buying trip to New York with the latest styles. Holiday On lce has added a feature attraction, figure-skater Judy Kirk. Jane McFall and Johnnie Sexton, housewives of the community are giving a bridal shower for Phyllis Lee, who is engaged to a millionaire. Anis Reynolds is back at Oxford High again. She is now Personnel Manager of Hiett's Supply Store. The beautiful, young socialite Marcia Owens an- nounces her engagement to the Baron de Salt Creek Falls. Gail Cox's school of charm will pre- sent a fashion show this week-end. Mary Jane Clark, top model will wear a surprising new style which is predicted to be the most startling since the sack. Shirley Watson is now manager of the The Little People's Club . Dancing lessons will be given each evening'by Clella Holcombe. A new kindergarten is now open on Snow Street. Miss Janice Becton's motto is: Bring a brat, take home a scholar.Among the first enrolled were the children of Barbara Herod and Betty Booker. Charles Skinner has received honorable notice for driving a Greyhound bus for five years without being involved in an accident. Sandra Golden is in charge of the Society Page of this newspaper. Barbara Morgan now has the column Teenagers Troubles in the Oxford Journal. T.V.- and MOVIE GUIDE: The Red Skelton Show will no longer be seen on this network as the Bruce Bassett show will replace it. The Jacky Black Gospel Sing will feature soloist Roy Barker on its program this week. Saturday night see Gunpuff , starring Leon Champion as the U.S. Marshall, Billy Couch as his deputy, and LaVerne Couch as the owner of Long Branch Saloon. All teenagers will be interested in the fact that the Nutty Nuggets Quartet , will appear on the Ted Shultz Variety Show, Sunday night. The members of this popular group Leven Higgins, Dwayne McDaniel, Ronnie Hill and Terrell Tinney have just earned their first Golden Record. A new program is in view, Oh Yvonne starring Yvonne Martin and co-starring Linda Knight. The stars of the I Love Lucy Show , Desi and Lucy are being replaced by Gloria Waits and her hus- band. Roxie Kelley and her husband have filled inthe places of Ethel and Fred. Patsy Ann Reaves is now hostess on the program King for a Day. Louise Barker is starring in I Led Nine Lives Her nine childred will also appear with her. Peggy Elkins is replacing Liberace on television, while he is away making a movie. On the cover of this month's Life is a picture of glamorous Frances Manhein. Ray Lipham's Theatre will not be seen this week as the show of the month presents a musical starring Ray Spivey. STORK CLUB: The former Joyce Middlebrooks, received a number of gifts for her baby which was the first one born this year. PROPHECY One warm afternoon in May, I969 as I was reading the Oxford Journal I noticed the following articles about the class of l959. FRONT PAGE: Mission Xl to Mars was successful today famous Scientist, Calvin Williams, announced. News Agent, Ann Bingham, said today Congress would hear a forceful speech from Senator Harold Casey of Alabama. The famous lecturer, Tommy Adams, will render a lecture on How to Drive a School Bus at Oxford High School tomorrow. Jerry Richards, one of three owners of Delta Airlines has measles and is being cared for by a special nurse, Pat Reaves. Jimmy Lane and Carmon Turner, his partners have left town in order to escape the danger of this disease. Phyllis Wildman, our new Ambassador to France, will depart next week via iet plane to her chateau there. Government pilot, Kenneth Hicks will fly the special plane. While our newly elected President, Gene Webb, is making a goodwill tour around the wor-ld, Vice-President, Tommy Langley, will take reins in the presidential palace. Billy Chitwood and his assistant Bob Led- better have just discovered how to take the salt out of ocean water. From Senior Favorite, Annie Rob Hubbard has become the new Miss Alabama of 1969. Clifford Britton now employed at Hunts- ville, Alabama, will soon make a trip to the planet Pluto in his newly developed rocket ship. Frank Higginbotham has received the award as Disc Jockey of the Year given by the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Paul Bright is opening a new Clinic at Coldwater, Alabama. His able assistant is Sandra Scruggs. Some of his most regular patients are the children of Joyce Deese and Flora Smith. Scientist, James McCain, has recently perfected a Youth Serum and now assures life up to IOO years. The first lady mayor in Alabama is Virginia Hudson who resides in De Armanville, Alabama. Miss Betty Bentley was voted Miss Congeniality in the Miss Possum Creek Contest. Roger Rhodes, brother-in-law of Governor Garvis Prater will leave for Moscow tomorrow for a pleasure trip. Jimmy Chitwood is now President of the How to get Caught Skipping Society. His executive secretary is Frances White. Wanda Higginbotham has iust won the title Mrs. Amer- ica. The first place runner-up is Agatha Crow. Billie Partlow has iust been elected Mother of the Year because of the wonderful iob she has done in ierking six little monsters up bythe hair of their heads. EDITORIAL PAGE: Moon People must co-operate, columnist, Kenneth Shropshire, says in his column today, or there will betrouble between us and them. CITY BRIEFS: Harris McCombs, Oxford businessman, was treated at Anniston Memorial Hospital for an iniured leg. He fell while climbing into the attic to geta suitcase for his wife. Clarence Watts was treated at Oxford Memorial Hospital yesterday because of an iniury in- curred at a thumb-wrestling match with Ronald Robinson. The famous veternarian, Kenneth John- son, will open his local Fleas Don't Bother Me office tomorrow. His head nurse will be Janice Grizzard. l26l
