Hte GloAA. c JtiAt uf JOYCE POPE We, the graduating class of 1947, stepping into a new phase of life different from any we have yet encountered, look back proudly over our years at dear old Calhoun High. We recall with pride ou' graduation from the sixth grade and how we came to high school wide-eyed, wondering what it was all about and how we d ever manage to get around in two big buildings. As we became 7's, 8’s, and 9's our spirit grew, and we continued on our way. We began to hold our heads a little higher each year and to think how much more we knew now than we had at first. During these years we lost many of our old class mates, but we gained new ones. These three years of junior high school went smoothly enough with each member acquiring more knowledge every day and building a foundation upon which to construct his learning to follow. Our senior years have been years of study, work, and play. They have, also, been readjusting years, because so many of our G. I s have returned to take up interrupted work. Our teachers and principal have guided us on to right paths and have given us their loyal support in any way they could We have been active in many social and athletic activities, and our class has been recognized as being a leader in both of these As the day of graduation is here, we realize it is an important occasion We have spent proudly our years at Calhoun High and, as we go forward in this fast-moving world, we shall always remem- ber our days here and strive to live up to its standards and principles. Has anyone thought to tell you How much we ll miss our friends That we'll love and remember Until the days of our life shall end? The last time we walked through the doors We turned for one long last look At the ivy-covered wall so fami'iar In our lives; it is the closing of a book So farewell to thee, dear old school If farewell it must be. We pledge in love and harmony To be always true to THEE.
