This objective is accomplished in a number of ways. The club is responsible for the devotional which is given each week in chapel. Different members of the club share in this responsibility. A service project is chosen each semester, some examples of these being the collection of food and clothing for needy families, presenting programs at the county home and the sponsoring of school movies on some phase of the Bible story or of moral teaching. Leveque, Jimmy Baucom. The members of the Bible Club hope that the example of individuals and of the club as a whole will also help to strengthen the spiritual tone of the school. IJ If the staff of the Ozwl has been wise fas the name impliesj in their coverage of school news and in voicing their opinions, in years to come the monthly issues will be important chapters in the line of Oxford High School 1955-1956. Ozv! issues in a treasured scrap- book will recall pleasant memories of happy school activities. It is always a source of keen pleasure to the staff that on publication days everybody welcomes the Out! and reads it avidly, particularly if his or her name appears in its columns. Debating 611111 and Public Speaking Hlass The Debating Club of Oxford High was revived this year, and meets on alternate Thursdays. Programs presented throughout the school year encourage and develop debat- ing skills through discussions and mock debates. Scheduled as a regular three-day activity, the Public Speaking Class has a program which varies according to the interest and needs of the group. The objectives of the organization are to improve everyday speech and to further other activities involved in public speaking. Highlighting the year is the debating Contest, which is sponsored jointly by both clubs. The contest includes the preliminary triangular debates, the semi-finals at Meredith in Raleigh and the finals at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Offvrd ffzgnfz Schao Hand This has been an active year for the Oxford High Band. In the fall when football was king, the band appeared at the home games and travelled to Henderson, Graham, and Hillsboro with the team. Local parades featured the organization, but the year's highlight was the spring concert.
