Prom was an all year event. The juniors planned and prepared for prom till early spring. The juniors also chose their class motto, class flower and their class colors. The junior year was a lot of hard work, but it was all worth it. 14 Sonia Young 15 Yvette Abston Shawn Alsip Jim Ballard Travis Beeman Sherry Bieler Tammy Bingham Kassa Collingsworth John Cooney Brian Cooper Bart Dennett Elaine Denson Catherine Elwood Penny Embry Tulsa Embry Clint Evans Curtis Farha Sandy Farha Scott Ferguson The Sophomores had a great year. In September they raised money by having a pen- ny toss, sponge toss, and ring toss during the watermelon feed. In December they had a bake sale with hot spiced tea and cocoa during the Christmas in the Country. These earnings will go toward the Junior-Senior prom next year. The Sophomores ordered class rings and will be getting them back at the beginning of the year ’85-’86. They have Mr. Wycoff as a sponsor who helps keep projects rolling and things in line. This year the student council had activities such as the hidden bats on Halloween that could be turned in for prizes. They also held a Christmas dance with KEYN supplying the D.J. The last day before Christmas vacation, the student council rented the movie “Psycho” for the high school students to watch. To start the 1985 year off, the student council held a basketball homecoming dance. One of the student council members, Jeff Leggett, provided the D.J. entertainment. A new idea done several times throughout the year was a donut break from 10:00 to 10:20 a.m. Student council members sold donuts and milk during this time. It seemed to go over well. Something people seemed to avoid is the fact that the Oxford Student Council is slowly falling in- to a state of apathy. There is hardly anyone who wants to put forth an effort to get things done. 1984-85 president Keel White stated, “I was disappointed in the effort put forth by several members. For examble, people left without cleaning up after dances. I just hope that next year there is more effort by members, and that they do more stuff.” First row: Treasurer, Jami Delp; President, Keel White; Vice President, Denise Woods; Secretary, MicheUe Deyoe; and Sponsor, Mr. Wyckoff. They published the yearbook, the “Kitty Courier” biweekly and the KNIC Radio Broadcast each Friday every other month. In October the students sold ads in our surrounding local areas. Each student learned the use of the camera and the dark room. There have been a lot of responsibilities, headaches, mistakes, and the dreaded DEADLINES. But it is meant to be a history of 1984-85 — our history! Within these covers are preserved memories of classes, games, dances, meetings, contests, and friends — memories to be relived and cherished as the class reunions come and go. At the Regional Contest, the Choir got very close to getting a I, with the scores of I, II+, and a II, which averages as a II. Oxfordians received a II rating at Regional Contest. Ten soloist performed in the contest, and two received I ratings at the State 2A Contest in Salina on April 27. These two were Catherine Elwood and Shari Spatz. The Kayette sponsor, Sharlene Book, said of the year, “It has been well organized. A lot of effort was displayed by the hilarious Christmas program and by the beautifully decorated Mother-Daughter Banquet. We definitely had good officers, who were backed up by members willing to help.” Michelle Deyoe, the backbone of the organization this year, added, “Being Kayette president was a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun. Having a lot of people willing to help make things run much smoother. As president, I learned a lot about responsibility. All of our activities seemed to go well and were enjoyed by all. I hope next year’s Kayette president and the organization have as much success as we had this year.” Junior and Senior Kayettes: First row, Sharon Abies, Jeanne Shelton, Sandy White, Theresa Glasgow, Kenna Kendrick, Jami Delp, Jamie Lee, Elaine Neises. Being a member of Honor Society is a great privilege that many students work for. To be a member of this club, each student must carry a grade point average of 3.4 or higher. Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students with high grade point average, leadership, and citizenship. The local faculty votes on each member as per these qualifications. Mr. Jerry Clark is the sponsor of the organization succeeding Mr. Ira White upon his resignation November 21, 1984. National Association of Second- ary School Principals is the sponsor of all Honor Societies. With good organization and hard work by the officers, the club raised enough money to again contribute to the purchase of equipment for the weight room. All the coaches are thankful that the lettermen see fit to add to the future of Oxford athletics. It is a very positive way for the graduating let- termen to be a continuing help in wildcat athletic contests. The senior lettermen have made a big contribution to the successful season Oxford boys have had in all sports. A party will be given to honor those departing seniors. So we went to Coach Hinkson to find out how the 1984 volleyball season went. “I feel like the 1984-85 volleyball season went much better than the record shows. The girls did a lot of growing in attitude and teamwork — two things I feel are far more important than a perfect record. Most of the varsity will be graduating this year and did a fine job as leaders.” Keitha Adams and Shari Spatz won All- League and All-League Honorable Mention respectively, and I congratulate them for these honors. Every coach would like to have more win these honors as I felt we should.” I would like to thank my assistant coach, Jan Slack, who did a great job helping me and coaching Junior Varsity. The team compiled an impressive 21-1 record and earned a trip to the 2A State Tournament. Coach Kehres gave his thoughts about the 1984-85 Wildcat season. “I want to congratulate everyone involved with the basket- ball season this year. We set a number of goals and we ac- complished the majority of these goals. For the first time in the history of Oxford, Garden Plain fell victim to us. There were two players that received outside honors, Michelle Deyoe and Keitha Adams. Michelle received All- League honors plus honorable mention 2A All-State by the Wichita Beacon. Keitha was also named All-League, 2A All- State first team by the Beacon. She also received 2A first team honors and third team All-Classes All-State by the Topeka Daily Capitol.” “I wish all the seniors the best of luck in the future. For the girls returning I hope they set goals to surpass what was ac- complished this season. I would like to express my thanks to Coach Rinehart for all the help and input he gave me and to the fans that came to watch the girls play.” Above: 1985 Wildcat Seniors! League was not high on the list of possibilities. The record of 15-5, league title, second place finish in the league tournament and the advancement into the second round of the sub- state play offs were a result of the teamwork and dedica- tion of the whole basketball team. The beginnings of the 84-85 prom started way before the week of that exciting night of prom. First, to raise money for prom, the Juniors sold magazines. After that hassle was over, they started to make decisions that would affect that eventful night. The ceiling was draped with baby blue and silver crepe paper. To enter, guests walked on a white bridge that was over a large rock pond. At the - end of the bridge stood two park lamps. The rock pond was surrounded by lush plants, while in the rocks were colorful spring flowers. Inside the pond swam lively golfish with crawling turtles. The back wall was draped in sheets of dark blue crepe paper to give a “finishing” night effect. The banquet meal consisted of tossed salad, grilled steaks, buttered corn, baked potato, and rich cherry cheesecake. The delicious meal was prepared by the Junior mothers and by Jim Miller, who cooked the C steaks. The entertainment of the evening was provided by the Junior girls quartet, Kelly Bell, Sandy Bain, Kenna Kendrick, and Sandy White who sang the theme song, “Stuck On You.” The music for the dance was provided by KBUZ. 1.
