OVER THE NET The Oxford volleyball cars srorred rhe 82-63 season with o new coaching staff. Lelond Shaffer, head coach, also coaches Jr. High foorblal. Jr. High girl's basketball, Jr. High boys track, and reaches grade school Phys. Ed. Theresa Jacobs, assistant coach, teaches High School math and helps sponsor pep club. When asked what he thought of this year's season, Coach Shaffer said, We hod a good year. Everybody, varsity through junior varsi- ty, showed improvement all year. They had good attitudes and were willing to work hard to hove success. The girls had good records. We weren’t picked to finish in the top four of the league, ond we finished second. Thor's pretty good. We should be rough rhe next few years because we hod a good group of junior varsity players. This was Cooch Jacobs first year coaching. She was a little nervous. Her comments on the season were, It was scory ot first because I didn’t know what I wos doing. I leorned a lot about volleyball, and I really enjoyed working with rhe girls. The seoson ended in rhe semi-finols of the Sub-Store Tournament. The girls were beaten by Garden Ploine, which was nothing to be oshomed of because Garden Plaine went on to win rhe rournoment. The varsity girls ended the year with o 17-8 record and the junior varsity girls ended with a 6-4 record. Above - Receiving the trophy for second place in the SCBL Tournament. Above Center - Joan dinks it over. Above - Dink mokes a great save. 30
