How do you think the subjects you teach benefit your students? How do you like teaching at Oxford? Mrs. Bales became a teacher because she had always wanted to be. She said, “In general reading, the knowledge of a foreign language helps.” She likes teaching in Oxford very much because Oxford is small enough to know the students and teachers. Why did Mr. Barton decide to teach? “My parents were both teachers and of course they were a big influence. I’m glad they were.” Because this is a farming community, he says that his subjects can be a carry-over in rural business and also they are a start for factory and self employment. Does he like it here? “I love it.” Mr. Hetlinger said that he has always been interested in history. His father had been a history teacher and had lots of history books at home. “History helps students learn about their country and themselves.” Mr. Hetlinger likes teaching here at Oxford because it is a small school and he himself attended a small school when he was growing up. 28
