MUSIC DEPARTMENT Oxford students participate in musical activities of all kinds. Both chorus and band practise regularly and present occasional programs. Cne of the interesting type of program during the last few years has been a series of exchange programs when we traded programs with neighboring schools-Pine Village, Otterbein, and Boswell. Our students participate, too, in the contests. This year first di- visions were won by the following contestants: Max Cochran, trumpet, Michael Cochran, saxophone, and Carolyn Gick, flute. Second division honors went to Laura Evans, soprano, and to Bob Oliver, clarinet. The high school chorus of L2 voices sang in the November County Vocal Festival at Pine Township High School under guest conductor William Moon of Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis. In March the entire band of 26 members was included in a very colorful County Band Festival at Ambia High School. Here the guest conductor was Mr. Paul Yoder of Chicago, a well-known arranger and composer of band music. Mr. Sarig spends part of each week during the summer giving private lessons to students who are ambitious to further their musical training. ENGLISH CONTEST For several years Oxford students have been entering the English Profiency tests, and some have made scores good enough to go to Indiana University for the finals in April. This year the contestants will be Josephine Woods and Donna Rasmussen, seniors, and Marilyn Nesbitt and Joyce Evans, juniors. W! Wwfficffw r 13K Now comes the time when I, Mrs. Law, must say 'Hail and farewell' to another senior class. Each one that has passed through my classroom has differed and this class is no exception. This is my last group of music students, for as some of you readers will remember, I came to this school to be a music and art teacher. This is the last of the group whom I took to that contest at Delphi when we won a first division with that chorus of 22 after thinking the judges were going to throw us out. Among these are the ones who sang at Kokomo when they were sixth graders. Was it not pleasant, and didn't we have fun! That last class was the one in which not one unpleasant incident ever occurred all year to mar our sing- ing. These are the children who learned 'Bobby Shafto' and 'Hickory, Dickory Dock , thereafter being engaged in singing with one of their Own number leading, when I came into the room. They still love to sing, and I loved hearing their voices in the Christmas Carols we left our English class to sing again this year. They and the class preceding them will ever have mv fondest memories for the hours we've spent together. ' Lest we forget, lest we forgeti' '77g,2'ZM
