The Clarzon 23 MY LITTLE POEM A little poem I must write It may be wrong it may be right I must write it this very day Or after school Ill haxe to stay This poem Im wrxtlng IS not ve y good Because Im not doing the way I should I know this poem is very rough Eight lines Ive written thats enough' Arnold Tyrrell 57 MY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE The date was October 1951 I was thirteen years old then and in the eighth grade My girl friend Janice Avery invited me to stay at her house for the night Her parents were going to be away until quite late and she d1d not like to stay at home with only her younger sister She had told me of times when all alone in the house she had seen strange things and heard weird sounds This had always happened when her parents weren t at home These tales had nev er scared me and so I agreed to spend the night with her During the first of the evening we made some fudge Then after being unsuccessful with that we made anoth er great concoction We put every thmg in lt including th1ngs whlch couldn t be eaten such as ink We fin allv ended up by throwing it away We had a really wonderful time doing those crazy things About ten o clock we declded it was time to start cleaning up the mess we had made This we did and afterwards we went out of doors to get some water from the well We had two DHIIS in which to carry it After Jan had filled the first pall I carried it in and was about ready to set the pall down when I heard the most frlghtenlng cry that I have heard 1n my life I dropped the pall of water and ran out to where Jan stood She looked as though she had seen a ghost How near the truth I was' In a stammermg voice she told me that when she was bringing up the second pail of water a ghost had come out of the well I did not believe her So the only way I could prove to her that she must be seeing things was to get a pail of water myself I pulled up the pall of water and suddenly I stopped I too saw what appeared to be some sort of an image down in the well I dropped the pail down the well and we both went screaming 1nto the house I stood behind Jan with a stick of wood while she locked the outside door What ever was out there was going to get a to come in We went into the llVlflg room both of us trylng to forget the incident when we heard someone mov mg around upstairs The room in which this noise came from had been closed for years After a few minutes of silence we decided vue must be hear mg things Suddenly the sound came again' Now we were really frightened' A few minutes later Jan s mother and father came home We told them what had happened and they 1ust laughed and told us It was time for us to be in bed Maybe the reason I heard and saw these thmgs was because Jan had told me so much about simllai things hap penxng to her Nevertheless this is no he it really happened to me and I do not think I can ever forget it Valerie Winslow 06 . y . . . .Il , Y . , , x v ' 1 A !
