AMERICA America is a land of love, For all who wish to see A haven in the night so darkg It's bright as bright can be. In this land where freedom sings A song so strong and loud, The opportunities it gives Make each one very proud. Some people come from far and wide To build a home right here O that this land were large enough To save all men from fear Lillian Whitney '52 QUERY Have you ever walked down a woodland lane And seen a bear all might and main? Have you heard a squirrel in a tree Chattering scolding at bird or bee? Have you seen a possum with its young If not then go out where the mosses grow For beauty lifts when spirits are low Have you ever seen the flowers bloom Or majestic trees that breezes groom? And have you sat by a bubbling brook Where fishes play in a shady nook? Have you ever seen the deer That come and play from far and near? If not go out and see Some of the wonders provided so free , . Y . , . . 1 I ' ' Y Y I l Have you seen the hills in the distance gleam . U . . . . y r - - , V Y Y w ' ' 1 ' l Q . 1 A f 'J ' ' . SPRING Spring is coming, fresh and greeng Snow gives way to soft brown dirtg The big storm door is replaced by a screen Robins sing and sparrows chirp. Brooklets rise and flood the dell, Then laughing, fall into the pool. Upon the hill we hear the bell, Calling the children in to school Boys are out with their bats and balls Puppies romp on the soft green floor Girls are talking to their dolls The season of seasons is here once more Francis Herrick 5 CANDY Candy is a delicacy That appeals to all But it s funny seems to me Tastes better where it oughtn' In class and study hall Patricia Mayberry HATS It's fun to go out on Easter And see all the funny hats Some look like real live animals Some abound with feathers Of red and green and blue And no matter where you go They would surely spoil your View Then you'll see a basket Held on with a piece of string Why not put on real live hens And really adorn the thing? Next is a mass of fe athers And my' it is surely fine But one wouldn t be a bit surprised If it flew away any time The ladies do feel so beautiful When they get on their head att1re But personally I think some hats Look worse than a house on fire' Jean Foster '52 . . , Z .
