Text from Pages 1 - 104 of the 1984 volume:

BLACKHAWK 1984 Racing towards tomorrow, having all this place can offer. A short time now, a smile away, so share it while you can. Soon this will be a memory, a milestone of all the changes; the well-known faces, and the winds of change are bringing a sea of a vast unknown. - CO- EDITORS: PAM BARTLE, TERRI HART, TAMMY MCGOWAN But with the friendship of your youth to guide you, make where you go as special as those times you've had with me. And when I hear that song on the radio, my mind will turn to you, and think of all the peace we shared. I'll know that you're o.k. On a breezy summer night alone, I'll think of all said. That will keep a light burnin' in my soul until you can make it back home. OXFORD ACADEMY AND CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL OXFORD, NEW YORK 13830 We the class of 1984 are dedicating this, our senior yearbook, to a very worthy person . But we are leaving behind many memories that made our years here happy ones. As Freshmen, John Baumgartner was our President while Craig Diamond served as our Vice President. Our Secretary was Pam Gates, and handling the money was Debbie Barber. We sold beach towels to start off our account, and we became the richest Freshman class ever. During our Sophomore year John Baumgartner returned as President with a new second in command—Jim Washington. Jean Hafelin was our Secretary and Beth Fisher our Treasurer. To increase our funds we sold cal- endars and had a Sadie Hawkin's dance. In our Junior year returning once more as President was John Baumgartner, and Craig Diamond reclaimed his vice-presidency. Chris Mott kept the notes while Pam Bartle managed the money. Our prom song was Love Me Tomorrow which was played by Firefox. Maureen McBride was the Prom Queen and was escorted by Mike Honkomp. The princesses were Mel Collins and Pam Gates, respectively. As Seniors Pam Bartle took over as President with Scott Begeal as Vice-President. Mel Collins was our Sec- retary and Dena Diamond our Treasurer. We had our Homecoming on the football field and Lisa Crandall was elected Queen. She was escorted by Matt Lyford. First Princess was Mel Collins and Second Princess was Pam Bartle. Craig Diamond will be leaving as an exchange student to the Phillipines. We had four happy years at Oxford High but now it's time to go out and see what the future holds for us. 16 CLASS ADVISORS MR. BRADLEY MR. GODFREY MR. GOHL MR. SHELDON MR. I especially like all the social life around school, which we don't have in Spain. Classes there are much harder, with a very big distance between teacher and students. Everybody here is very supportive and friendly, so the only thing I miss of Spain is the warm weather they are enjoying. I have enjoyed playing soccer and I have joined the Ski Club. Next spring I think I will play baseball. Thank you all. Love, Juan Exchange Students Cathy Nell This year in America has been an experience in a lifetime, and if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would. I was really nervous, yet excited, about coming to Oxford after being a city girl all my life. But once here, I felt totally at home and couldn't have asked for a better place. The beautiful memories of my host fam- ilies, my friends, this school, the different exper- iences, as well as the fun and crazy times will be treasured forever. I shall always save a special place for Oxford in my heart. Don't be surprised if you hear the Queen's English spoken once more—it'll only be me back here again. Thanks to each one of you for making this year so special. This truly is a beautiful country filled with fantastic people. I hope you will never forget me—the little South African you thought would be black!! Keep smiling forever! I've enjoyed their beautiful white sand beaches, and I've been to the volcanic mountains, traveled through some beautiful tropical forests, and met many interesting people. I'm going to La Salle College as a freshman and am enrolled in their engineering courses. I'm playing basketball for the varsity team at La Salle, which is keeping me very busy! The Bacolod North Ro- tary Club here is very active within the community, which, in turn, keeps me very busy helping with their programs! My host families have been so nice and understanding to me. They truly make me feel at home and part of their family. A sharing of their love makes my stay here even more pleasurable; even the maids and the drivers will try to please my every whim! The hospitality is truly unbelievable! Well, take care! Those bashful SENIORS! Judy,Judy,Judy What do ya say You wanna walk in the BOY'S LOCKER ROOM with the camera? AMEN!! 89 90 D-Day Discussion group strikes again! This elitest group has existed for barely over a year. They do nothing but meet once a month to turn down applications, and stuff their faces with pizza. The only project they've attempted was to raise enough money to buy white shoe polish, to make Teresa's sneakers look new again. Obviously, it failed. No matter, you're not invited to the next pizza party anyway!! Two minds are betler than one!.......................Especially in this case!!  1 INDEX DEDICATION....................2 SENIORS.......................3 UNDERCLASSMEN.............24 ORGANIZATIONS..............31 SPORTS 46 .66 FACULTY.
