Senior Class Officers Vice President—Lydia Mannion, President—Jackie Race, Secretary—Brenda Estelow, Treasurer—Chuck Schaefer Class History Throughout our high school days, we, the class of 1982, have felt a strong attachment to every aspect of school life. Our Freshmen year we broke in a new principal with Jackie Race beginning her 4 year term as class president. Van Welsh backed her up, with Dotty Sheldon as secretary and Bobby Utter as treasurer. To raise money we had a few bake sales and raffled a football. Our Sophomore year with Jackie and Van still in command and with Dot as secretary, we gained a new treasurer Heidi Russell. We sold buttons and originated the Sadie Hawkins Dance. In our Junior year we gladly welcomed Jackie back with Lydia Mannion second in command. Tammy Baker was secretary and Heidi took care of the money. Our magazine sale was a huge success, as was our Junior Prom. Julie Dutcher was crowned Queen, Mike Crandall was her King. Alice LaTourette was first princess and Holly Wilson was second princess. SENIORS!!! During our year at the top we were led once again by Jackie, with Lydia serving her second term as V.P. Brenda Estelow took the notes as Chuck Schaefer counted the money. Our Homecoming Queen was Theresa Crandall; Mike Noyes was King. The princesses were Brenda Estelow and Alice LaTourette. As we look back upon our high school days, we remember many special times that will never be forgotten. A great sadness comes as we leave old friends and memories. However, a whole new world awaits us. LOOK OUT WORLD, HERE WE COME!!!!! Advisors—Mr. Ron Smithmeyer, Mrs. Joan Swertfager, Miss Rosemary Truman. Greetings from The Land of the Midnight Sun ' Sweden! I've been here 5 months now, and I'm really enjoying myself! Sweden is a very beautiful country, but at the moment it is very cold and dark (only 5 hours of sunlight a day). I live in the town of Lidkoping, which is located on the largest lake in Sweden, Lake Vanern. It's a beautiful town with a population of about 30,000 people. It has a lot of history, which is true of any town in Sweden. We have a large castle near us. Lidkoping has a very famous pottery factory, Rorstrand, which exports all over the world. We also have the best Bandy team in Sweden here. Bandy is a sport played on ice much like ice hockey. My school here is large: about 1400 kids in the last 3 years of school. These last 3 years are concentrated in lines—such as science, technical, economical, social, and languages. School is much more difficult here and the kids take it much more seriously, also. Classes are 40-80 minutes long with a 20 minute break between classes. I usually start school at 8:00 in the morning and finish at 3:20 in the afternoon. I've been keeping busy here, but when I have time I like to travel. I was in Rome, Italy this fall. The Swedes are very much like Americans, and so I feel pretty well at home. The language is difficult but I'm learning. I'm having a super year so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. Skot om ni (take care)! Hjartliga onskar, Julie Dear friends: When I decide to be part of the exchange program I did not realize the wonderful things I was going to have in this country. After six months in this country I really think this is a great experience and it is the best thing that could happen in my life. Now, I can say thanks a lot to Rotary Club for giving me this opportunity, and thanks, too, to all of you for making me feel really good. With friends I'm really enjoying my year in this school. I hope in the rest of the time here, I learn more about your country and its people. I know when I'll return to my country next August, I'm going to miss all of you and this part of the world, and I know too, this year I will never forget. Love, Jackie Alvarez 74 Seniors Exchange Students Hello everyone. I've been in the Philippines for seven months and love it. I'm in Angeles City which is about 45 minutes from the capital, Manila, and is where the American Air Force Base is stationed. This place is quite Americanized. There are stores in the city with all American imports. It has all the clothes and food that we have in Oxford. Naturally, I take advantage of the Chips Ahoy and Oreo cookies. It's hard to miss home when I have everything I would have in the states. I feel like I'm in the Philippines USA. I attend Angeles University. It is one giant school, from grade school to college. It's co-ed so it feels like attending Oxford. I do have to wear a uniform, which I really like because I don't have to decide what to wear everyday. My courses are all general and I attend classes from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily. On Saturdays most students still go for their military training, but I'm exempted because I'm an American. My life is really wild and crazy and I enjoy that. My Rotary club is very wild so they make me feel at ease. I always was a little crazy. The club is made up of Americans, Filipinos, Chinese and British. It's quite international. I enjoy learning the language and meeting new people. I'm certainly not a foreigner, so people don't really pay alot of attention to me. Sometimes people do stare at me because of my red hair. I'm really glad I came to the Philippines and it's an experience I'll never forget. It's great. pagmamahal. Van Jkoere Alle, First of all I'd like to thank all of you for making my stay in Oxford so enjoyable, so unforgettable, so GREAT. I come from Denmark—a nice little place in the northern part of Europe. I don't want to tell you a whole lot about my country—just answer the three most asked questions; No, Denmark is not a city in Russia; Yes, Denmark is considered a civilized country; and No, polar bears are not walking around in the streets of Copenhagen. I'm very impressed with the social life around the school here—I've never seen anything like it; and I think it's fantastic. I had the honor to play for the Blackhawks' soccer team, ski with the ski club, and this spring I'll try tennis. Should any of you ever come to my part of the world, be sure to give me a call. God bless all of you.
