Dedication Mrs. Walsh has been very important to previous yearbook staffs. Even though she resigned from the advisor’s position this year, Mrs. Walsh has been available any time that she is needed. For this reason we would like to honor Mrs. Walsh for her time and outstanding help she has given this year's staff and previous staffs. Thank you, Mrs. Walsh. In Memory Mike Anthony was a kind of person I admired. The one thing about him that I remember most is that he never was a phony or pretended to be someone that he wasn’t. He was just himself, the person that his small group of friends knew and loved. These friends all benefited from knowing him, and I know we all miss him greatly. Yerton S. Young B Zimmerman M. Zimmerman Ten situps! M. Westerholm B. Whaley P. Wilcox D. Williams Sweetie pie! They're ofl and running! Don't step on the crack! What a crew! August 18, was the day I came. When I arrived in Oxford, the first thing I've noticed was your huge cars (it’s probably the reason why French people imagine American men quite heavy, relaxing and smok ing a cigar in their cars). Then a couple weeks later, I started school. I found everything new and at the same time interesting. The big difference I really enjoyed is the relations between teachers and students that are a lot better than in France. I'm not crazy about school but I prefer yours than mine. Here. I’ve taken many courses that we don’t have at home like Creative Art, Home Ec, Photography, Public Speaking, Musical. . .) During the week, I spent my time going out for most of the home sports events but... I still don't understand football! Myself, I tried gymnastics, but after one week of practice, I was already too tired to keep going (tired or lazy, I sometimes wonder). Then, I went out for bowling but it wasn't a success ever. Talking about the weather, I think it's really cold, and I don't like it too much, but at least I had the opportunity to go skiing (it was a lot of fun but not without trouble believe me!). Now, I have 5 months left, and I hope to travel a little bit. Amities Ghislaine I arrived in Oxford the 9th of September, 1977. That really was a fantastic, but mainly a strange day. I saw a new world. In Germany I only learned the British Oxford English, so when I first came, and people talked to me, I couldn’t understand a word, for your English is so different. In Europe people say the U.S.A. is the country of freedom. Partly it is true, but I was still very surprised about some laws and rules. Germans are known as stubborn; I think I am no big exception. Therefore, I also need your tolerance, then I really can adjust to your society. This is a school yearbook; therefore, I should talk about U.S. schools. One great thing in schools over here is sports. I tried to play football and only got penalties. But I won’t give up, and I’ll try different kinds of sports and hope you don't break my neck. American sport is rough and brutal compared to German. But I like rough sports. I will never regret that I came over. I think this exchange program is a great opportunity for everybody. I like staying in Oxford and with you. I am leaving in August, 1978, and I’ll leave a great year and fantastic people. Like the Germans use to say PROST, jetst sauji! viel gluck (good luck) Jorg The two questions I have to answer most when I meet somebody is: “Do you like snow?” and Are you from the jungle?” Well, I am not from the jungle, and I like snow. It was an amazing sight for me when I arrived here and everything was white, for we don't get snow in South Africa. I think that skiing is fantastic, and maybe if you Americans could feel the South African summer heat, you would appreciate snow much more. Life in South Africa is a bit different than the American life style. Life in America is much more free and places greater responsibility on younger people. The school system here is also different from ours. Ours is stricter and students have less freedom. But school here is fun, and I’m enjoying every moment of my stay in Oxford. I did not expect the people to be as friendly as they are to me. I would like to say thank you to everybody in Oxford and for your hospitality and for making me feel at home. It is a community that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am looking forward to a fabulous year in America. As the South Africans say: Alles can die Beste (everything of the Best.) Albert deBeer 9 . I dare you to take that picture. For sure, you guys. At it again? Working hard for once! Look at that beauty! 46 48 People who work together, play together Come here and say that. ARMOND MENARD East Hill, Wackford Road Oxford, NY 13830 Faces of old and faces of new, People we know and people we knew, Growing together then drifting apart, Always an ending and now a new start. At graduation we all grow nearer And all of our friends seem so much dearer. And as we say our final good-bye, Our last embrace and one more cry, A keep in touch and a promise I will A remember when but, better still, A place in my heart, you'll always stay, This is what's said as we go our own way.
